Humi-Care Electric Humidifier

urbinourbino Posts: 4,517
I see ccom no longer sells the Cigar Oasis. Instead they have this, which looks nearly identical, and is cheaper. Anybody have any experience with this product or know about its effectiveness or reliability, or how big a volume it's designed to humidify?

Interesting...I've seen those, but have not heard anything about them.

Well, I see on second glance that it says right there how much volume it's designed for: 8 cu.ft.

Well, the reason I ask is, it seems I just ordered one of these:

Yeah. I haven't quite processed the fact that I just spent that much money on a humidor. But somebody's gotta prop up the economy, right?

I got tired of the coolerdor. Too much hassle to find/get at anything. It's gotten to the point that I actively dread opening it up, every damn time.

And thanks. Its rated capacity is 3000, which should be sufficient for the next . . . rest of my life.

Congrats 'Bino. That looks awsome. Can't imagine how giddy you must feel now. Now, when you get it and its set to go and your smokes are tucked snugly in...... please do send us some pics so we can be envious.

I have actually been looking at the same humidor all afternoon. I need a big one because ive got 4 smaller humidors and would like to take care of only one. You may have talked me into pulling the trigger.

Considering how much you have spent on cigars, you really didn't spend "that" much on a humidor..... LOL. At least that is what I told myself when I spent $400.00 on my cabinet. It is well worth the investment considering how much $$$$$ in cigars that you'll put into it. Congratulations on the new addition to your family.

Congrats, banana boy. (This must be that multiplier effect all the Keynesians talk about.) That's sorta the same reason I got it. I almost got the 1500-ct. end table humi, but it didn't really seem designed to handle many loose cigars, mostly boxes, and I didn't want to get it, then have to get something else, too, or even instead, down the road, and then have to figure what to do with the end table. This way, I figure I've pretty well future-proofed myself.

What are you thinking for humidification?

Thanks, bandy. What are you using for humidification?

Thanks, gm. I'm not much for giddy, but I'm fairly excited. I think that's the first "'Bino," btw. Sorta makes me feel like Dean Martin.

I also looked at smaller cabinets, but it would probably be too small sooner than i would like. As for humidification, im not sure yet, but i'll probably overdo it.

I run the Ciager Oasis II XL. It is nice but the built in hygrometer is way off. I have to set mine at 80% to humidify the cabinet to 70%. I have to refill it approximately every other week. And it does take up a bit of space. I think, IMO, that running 2 of the smaller version 1 upper and 1 lower may be a bit better.
  • urbinourbino Posts: 4,517
Hmmm. Interesting. I'm surprised and disappointed you have to refill it that often; the Oasis II is what I was thinking of using. I guess with cabinet-sized humidors, though, you lose a LOT of humidity every time you open the door.

Have you thought to use a Heartfelt bead/ Oasis combo? For example, setting the Oasis at the top or bottom, then placing some trays of beads around the place, like 1/2 pound in 4 locations perhaps.
  • urbinourbino Posts: 4,517
It crossed my mind. I can't quite tell, but it kinda looks like there may be a small gap between that bottom shelf and the bottom of the humi. If there is, I might be able to put a large, shallow tray of beads in the bottom.

It is really not the loss of humidity when you open the doors, although it doesn't help, but it is because the oasis is trying to reach the humidity level set on the control (80%). However, when I lower the control level, say to 75% the actual humidity will drop to about 60 - 63%, a little to dry for me. Since it is running constantly it does run out of water fairly quickly. That is another thing, the Oasis will run pretty much all the time so you will hear it.

That right there is what prompted my suggestion of beads. Since they will help to maintain that baseline humidity, the burden on the Oasis should be lower causing it to run less frequently. That's my theory anyhow, in practical application I can't say if it would work quite that way.

I am running a cigar oasis and have 2 lbs of 65% beads I have the cigar oasis set at 63% and it only will run only when I open the door and the beads quickly stabalize the humidity at 65% once the door is closed again. I am using a 50 bottle wine cooler 5.8 cubic feet and really like the dual set up the oasis gets humidty back close quickly and the beads stabalize it and fine tune the humidity.

I should be able to reclaim the Oasis XL I have now from my 300-ct. humi, once I move everything into the big humi. I might put that on the top shelf, and get an Oasis II for the bottom shelf.

seems like overkill urby. all of that in a 300ct?
  • urbinourbino Posts: 4,517
No, no. I'm talking about taking my Oasis XL out of the 300-ct., since I won't need to use it, and putting the XL in the new humi, along with an Oasis II.
  • j0z3rj0z3r Posts: 9,403 ✭✭
What is the count on that cabinet urby?
  • urbinourbino Posts: 4,517
3000. Or, as we say in the 'hood, 3 large.
  • j0z3rj0z3r Posts: 9,403 ✭✭
If you talk like that in some of the 'hoods around these parts, you're liable to get yoself killed dog. :)

3000 is a good number...I'd like to see it when you've got it stocked. It'll be like porn. :)

This is the direction I'd go. This is how my coolerdor is set up and how most wine-fridge and large cabinets I know of are being humidified.

Hearfelt sells a sock that will hold half a pound so you could just get a couple of those and use your Oasis.

As far as that Humi-Care goes, the one thing I've heard about it was it was a cheap rip off of the cigar oasis. I read that on another forum and it was written by a retailer who had just got a few into his store.

damn, how big is the thing? could you pm me the specs? I was looking at a 1500 but 3000 wow..

    22 1/2” W x 16 1/2” D x 67” H

Thanks for the Humi-Care info, maddy. Sounds like it's best to stay with the Oasis.

No problem. Its just one mans opinion but its the only one I've seen so ...

I've got some of those Heartfelt socks, btw. If I can fully retire the coolerdor -- and I can't imagine why I couldn't -- I also have enough beads to put a half-pound here and there in the new one.

I'll do what I can on the pics, gm.
