B&Ms/Golf/Things to do in Windsor, Canada?

jgibvjgibv Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭✭✭
A few friends and I will be heading north to Windsor for a long weekend in May....we're looking to enjoy some cigars, drinks, and hit the casino. We want to try & do some golf while we're there too.
And from what I understand, Canada's tobacco laws are stricter than those in the US - and I've read that Canadian shops can't display tobacco products for sale? Is this correct? If so, anyone know of legit stores where we can get cigars/ISOMs?

Also, how about indoor smoking - are there any lounges/B&Ms/restaurants that allow it, can we smoke at the casinos?

And if you all have any other suggestions for golf courses, restaurants, or anything else we should check out while we're there - let me know?

Thanks!

I haven't been to Windsor, but I do live in Ontario. From what I know, I don't think there is any "public indoor" smoking allowed in the entire Province. I'd love to find out that I am wrong. You can still get "smoking rooms" in hotels, but that's about as close to indoor smoking in a public place as you're going to get. Good luck with the B&M's. They are not allowed to openly display anything that says they sell tobacco products, but you might find some nice Canadian that let's you know what corner store has ISOM. Ipt WAY too far away for a drive, but as an example there is a small grocery place in Sault Ste. Marie with a sign that reads "The Cubans are here!", but that's the onlyl advertising available. You have to know what brand to ask for unless you smile real nice and say "please".

I haven't been to Windsor yet, but I think the no-display law only applies to cigarettes and snus. There are B&Ms (though they're far and few between), but the ones I've been to have walk-in humidors that are easy to find.

As far as lounges...well, good luck. From what I've heard and read, there's a complete ban on in-door smoking in this province. Pretty much the only place you can legally smoke is in your home or in your yard. So far, this seems to be true since I've yet to see, hear, or even find lounges on google. Of course though, I've seen some people smoke on the streets, so I don't think outdoor smoking laws (if there are any) are really enforced.

If you want ISOMs, the best way to get them affordably is on a few reputable sites (pm me if you want info). Tobacco products here are highly taxed (ex. Padron 1964 is 30- 45 dollars here for a single). However, there is a La Casa Del Habanos in Windsor on Ouellette Avenue if you want to visit it.

Ok thanks a ton for the insight camgfs & wwhwang. I've tried Google searches for smoking laws in Windsor/Ontario and unfortunately I think you guys are right - it looks like there's a complete indoor smoking ban for the province. Gonna call Caesar's though and be sure.

Also I'm gonna call the Casa Del Habanos and see if we could smoke indoors there, if so we might have to stop in for a cigar or two. That's crazy expensive taxes though so I don't imagine we'd buy many. PM to you about that other info, Wayne.

Thanks again guys - also have you heard of any good places to golf around Windsor too?

Sounds like the Bordellos are up and running in Ontario. Legal now. Just a thought.

True, I always prefer to smoke outside when it's nice weather - but I was concerned if we'd be able to smoke while in the casino, or at dinner, etc.
