How things change

deejmemixxdeejmemixx Posts: 3,084 ✭✭
So, in less than a day I will be on my way to Minn. to pick up my mother and help her on a new path in life. No less than a month ago I thought the next time I seen her would be at her funeral. This was also the thoughts of everyone around her including doctors.

She is now moving down here after selling everything she owns, selling her house (been there 20 years) and moving to an area she has never been, to do the things she wants before she dies in an area that doctors can take care of her with out a 6 hour drive.

I am talking vacations with my brother to florida instead of burial/cremation decisions.

I am so excited my kids get to see her again, cant wait to take her to the beach, to smell the fresh ocean air, sand between her toes, sunshine instead of grey skies.

this is crazy... I really cant even put my thoughts into complete...well thoughts as there are so many.

Thanks to the toombes (dan) Irish (brett) Bffffnsteve (steve), Bigshizz (jim) Sniper (glenn) and anyone else that has recieved txts from me during this time ranting and trying to make sense of everything. Better friends than I could ever ask for, or have ever had. Nothing but strait up man love for you all. Brostash unit!

Things have a way of reminding us there is good in everything.
She sounds like a very strong woman and is very well loved.
What else could anyone ever ask.
    Hug her and love her.
And you take care of yourself in the mean time.

strong woman does not even sum this lady up, I have been told she will not live for another month more times than I can count. her hep. c specialist at the mayo clinic said he has not found another woman that has lived as long as she has with this disease. She defies odds...her life of problems... Hep C, *** cancer, congestive heart failure, kidney shut down, liver transplant, 2 open heart surgeries, raising two boys solo, thyroid issues...I know I am missing some stuff in there. She is truly an inspiration to me. She does..or was doing...nails at the senior center, volunteering at the library, sells Avon and was the president of retired teachers of south Dakota..all while dealing with this.... I dont know how she does it.

More and more people are putting their families back together the way they should be. It's more fun for everyone.

made it back safe and sound, 4 flights in two days in tiring to say the least. My mom is good, doctor appts already. Loving the sun and the shopping, its very cool to be able to give back to a woman that gave so much to me through out my life. its a strange feeling to come home from work and find your mother sitting on your couch, i actually started crying when I walked through the door today and seen her sitting there... take my man card lol

Shane, I just read through this entire thread and want to tell you how wonderful I think it is that this is happening in the way that it is. I've been out of touch for a while and missed out on your circumstance.

I feel touched by what you're doing and what you've gone through. This will be a very special time for you and I'm sure you'll cherish it. The sense of family bonding is strong and will get stronger with time.

I salute you and respect you for what you're doing. Rock on.....

thx everyone, she is getting acquainted with the town, lots of shopping with my wife and kids inbetween Tue doc appointments. Can't wait for the rain to stop so we can do more outside stuff. Her strengths seems to be comming back slowly but surely. Such a great feeling giving back to her. It's not often you get to repay someone who has given so much to you.

Guy I work for brought his mother into the office Friday to do some filing. She wants to get out of the house once in a while and be useful. She's been living with him for maybe a year now. Seventy something. Tiny critter. You should see the two of them sharing lunch, very sweet on each other. The exploded family idea is bunk... Life's so much better together.

Nice looking pup in the picture, too.

Very nice. Very inspirational for all of us. It is honest, down to earth posts that allow people to figure out more of what matters. Hopefully by sharing your story, more people will take a few minutes to do those things that do matter with the time they now have not worrying about those things that do not. Thanks for sharing. Trust she is picking away at her bucket list :)

I envy you, the only folks in my family I have been close to were my grandparents who have been gone 3 years now (well, grandpa 3 grandma close to 8) and my cousin who lives on almost the exact opposite side of the country. It's always great to see families with strong bonds like yours, keep holding tight (like I needed to say that! :) )
