Freakin' Awesome, Fake Debt Collector

this is great, i got a call froma debt collector at work, at least i though it was,
he asked for me i responded, he started to rattle a loan debt ,
i said o.k. can you send me the info in the mail so i can confirm?
he stated i sent it to you already
i said well i dont have the info can you send it again?
he basicly said no, and said how do i want to pay this, i said i'm not! since you refuse to send me the info to review
he hung up,
and called again less then 1 minute
started all over
i said again can you send me any info via mail, he said no and hung up
now he called the front office and told the girl upfront that if i dont call back in 5 mins that the phones will be put on a redial system basicly a TdoS
well by the time she called me he was calling them again
non stop
i talked to him again and he said i'll stop calling once you pay me $400, isaid no and hung up
we came i this morning he started again
this morning he stated he wanted $800to stop calling
basicly blackmailing me
we called the police and had the officer talk with him also and he basicly told the cop that he can do what he wants and hung up
but kept calling back over and over about every 5 seconds no one on the line when you pick up
we called him back like 20 times and every time he would talk down and say what you going to do if i dont stop calling, you cant do anything to me

well after detectives and aviation poolice got involved he has not called again ..... yet
WTF! is that? this guy had some brass on him talking craap, and radial calling for hours, we found out from the phone company that this is a payday loan scam and once you get on the phone with them, they got your number and can do a telephony denial of service attack, by redialing over and over, disrupting your work or home service by making it seem busy
all i got to say is W_T_F!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's nasty. I'm not one for more laws, but if this isn't illegal it should be. Harassment or extortion or something. Any idea how this guy got your number in the first place?

The shame of it is with half the work they could make twice the money doing something honest.

i'm guessing it was from the target fiasco, i got a new bank accnt# and debit card back in january,
then i got a bunch of emails from every loan, payday, moneygram all kinds of loans people wanting to give me one, they go to spam, but 50-60 emails a day from them, so i am guessing they got it from who ever got the info to spam me,
but the target thing was the only place that had my work phone no# on it, i dont do payday loans, but i get emails all the time,
whole thing is a pain in the asss

I'd find out who it was then beat the crap out of them! I'm sure they have done this too many people so they probably would have no idea who just kicked the crap out of them

It may not have anything to do with you specifically. In a number of different areas people like this have blackmailed hospitals into paying pretty large sums of money to avoid these hackers shutting them down, your guy may just be playing a spinoff of that idea. Someone figured out that VOiP systems are servers that rarely have virus/security protocols and exploited it to threaten critical services. We actually got a notice from the FBI (I think, may have been our state police, we get quite a few things like this) about it at my agency.

I got a call on my cell at work a few weeks back asking for me by name...... They stated that it was an attempt to collect a debt .... I inquired to a debt from who ..... They eluded and were asking me to verify my mailing addresses from the past .... Then they told me that the debt was from Columbia house ....... They stated that I had not fulfilled club obligations and I asked when I signed up and what address they sent the info to. They gave me address of my first house that we bought in September of 2007 ...... And said that the order was shipped to the address in 2002 ..... I started to laugh at the guy and he was like all you need is to pay us 80.00 to remedy the problem .... I asked him for his direct line and company name and that I wanted the debt detail sent to me cause how did I have stuff go to a house that I didn't own until five years after the fact .... I said mail me the info and I'll pay it, he started on that they could only accept a credit card over the phone ..... I laughed at him and advised to try and scam someone else ..... Before I hung up the offer to resolve the debt was down to asking me for 30.00 ...... These scammers are fishing for old and new addresses and phone numbers that still work, then trying to use old popular mail deals and other things..... A co worker said he had the same type of thing from blockbuster video trying to collect a debt ..... Crazy **** going on everywhere.

Not sure if this scam is going on in the US or not, but here in Canada, we have a scammer that calls people at random with a pre-recorded message saying "Thank you for being a valued customer of [enter company name here]. Please press 1 to receive a surprise offer." Then when you press 1 and the scammer will try to get private info out of his victims.

One of these dickweeds tried to squeeze Bearswatter yesterday while I was at work. Started out asking for the adult of the house. Bearswatter told him she's a great-grandmother, so she probably qualifies. Then started in about a debt she had left behind when she died. Bearswatter told him she'd attend to that debt promptly soon as she does die. Then he starts asking for her SSN. She asks for his. Round and round they go.
