Dammitall JD, now I'm pissed off again!
Bohica!

The issue these yahoos have here, IMHO, are the words "for profit." Some one, not the government for the dimmocrats, of the dimmocrats and by the dimmocrats, is making money at this. The horror! The question needs ro be asked of these elected criminals, loudly and often, is just exactly how do you accumulate an eight figure bank account in four years on a low six figure salary?I'm still troubled by what I did for that Klondike bar...1

A big issue as I see it is that there are a ton of guys who make bogus and unnecessary claims to connect all kinds of **** to their service.
I spent my whole life in the dod. I know of no one except for me who hasn't claimed ear ringing. For line guys like Paul, I believe it. For a contracting officer who never deployed? Eff you bro. Everyone also loves to claim sore knees and a whole host of other shytte in order to beef up their number. Of course you have sore knees, you're a middle aged dude! We all have that stuff, and you'd haveit whether or not you served... End result: a clogged system.
A lot of guys with 19 in spend their last year cramming sleep apnea and ankle sprains into their medical records so it gets the service connected designation. I have 6 retirees that work for me who have +80 percent designations (equals cash in pocket) who ALL CrossFit circles around my fat 10 percent ****.
Funny story, I was at the VA hospital here in Vegas and saw a guy wheeling around on a creeper board. No legs, no right arm, half a left arm. THAT GUY is 100 percent disabled. Not the guy with tenitis and sleep apnea.
It's ok...I believe in carma. I claimed my carpel tunnel and a bum rotator cuff that I got falling off of an f15. When the CTS got bad, I called the VA for help. In 3 weeks, I was getting the laser surgery. In with bad hands, out like it never happened.
Rant over.....@ScotchnSmoke sux lots of large wéiners. And tons of small ones.1 -
@VegasFrank, I saw the same thing and it made me livid. 21 years of jet noise and kneelin on concrete... I've got zip for VA disability. I see that as a goid thing. I've got tinnitus, but it's just an after effect of chemo.I'm still troubled by what I did for that Klondike bar...0

Steel mill.... definitely the steel mill. We were all the epitome of restraint when we were kids; upholding the highest standards of morality, respectability and virtue.I'm still troubled by what I did for that Klondike bar...1

@VegasFrank , now you know more than one. I didn't claim tinnitus, I was a Tank Crew member, driver, gunner, TC, and believe me I have tinnitus. I also didn't claim my knee, which is now titanium thanks to having no cartilage in it while running multi-miles every morning, often with a backpack. Not to mention jumping up and down off the tank. I also didn't claim my labral and rotator cuff tears. Or the carpal tunnel.
But I did claim my back injury, which is hurting like hell again today. No, I don't get a check. Never asked for one. The lady I had to talk to said
"Son, they're not gonna give you a check for this."
I told her I wasn't looking for a check, but since I was obviously going to have back pain every day for the rest of my life, for doing what I was told, I did think that I should get treatment.
She said
"Oh we treat everyone, look around."
I said
"I've been looking around, and I don't think I should have to wait in line behind people who've never served a single day in their life."
She approved the claim.
I've had some degree of back pain every single day since May 16th 1986. Yesterday and today I can't do hardly anything I want to do because it's flared up again. Can't complain too much though, I was able to put on my own shoes and walk around, so, it's been worse.
Rant over, sorry, the back pain makes me grouchy sometimes.WARNING: The above post may contain thoughts or ideas known to the State of Caliphornia to cause seething rage, confusion, distemper, nausea, perspiration, sphincter release, or cranial implosion to persons who implicitly trust only one news source, or find themselves at either the left or right political extreme. Glad to see as usual most miss the point.
Fakes are going to happen in the military and civilian life, what a surprise.
Criminal Illegal Immigrant Aliens are treated better then our military people. And no one seems to care.
Now benefits that are finally being offered are haveing the xxxxxxxxx famous we don't care hammer and chisel reducing, or at least attempting to reduce them if not outright do away with them.
I have had tinnitus since I got out. Hearing problems since I gout out. And a really screwed up finger since I got out. Screwed up teeth since I got out. Chronic Venous Stasis because of an injury when I was in. No benefits.

I don't think that anyone missed the point @jd50ae. The opinion column was about VA med benefits and the gi bill. We're talking about the VA, but if you want to talk about the proposed ban on University of Phoenix, we can talk about that too.
I would say that a lot of the biggest for profit colleges sell students (their customers) a bunch of promises that they don't deliver. That promise is a competitive degree, which many of them never give.
From where I'm sitting, I see that both I and many of my colleagues don't value a u of p BA as much as we do a BA from a non profit. Sorry brothers, but it's true. 5 week semesters and credit for life experience just doesn't cut it for me.i need that BA candidate to sit in college algebra for a whole semester, not get credit for the babysitting side job she ran from her house 10 years ago. (I've seen this happen). That business law class needs to be more than 5 3 hour classes long. Hell, mine was 16 3 hour class sessions, and you can't tell me that you learn the same material in 5 weeks that you do in 16.
Now. I understand your point about restricting choices. I wouldn't go as far as to say that this equates to sub-illegal alien treatment, but to each his own. I will tell you though that the military has been blacklisting businesses for, oh, about 200 years or so. When I was in, Troops couldn't go to jd byrider or payday loan places. True story!
I do agree that trade schools are important, but not all are banned. The very unfortunate fact of the matter is that most of the for profit schools are crap, and a lot of them are predatory, charging 200K for a welding certificate that a guy will use to start at 17 bucks an hour....all paid for by the department of education and giving that welder no shot of ever repaying the student loan ...
However, I'm not one to buy into the bullshhhyyyte of Republicans OR Democrats. Republicans claim that these schools are being blacklisted because the Democrats want the military guys to be brainwashed by liberal thinking non profit schools and teachers...if you believe that, I have some gurkha, I'm I mean cohiba Cubans to sell you...@ScotchnSmoke sux lots of large wéiners. It's well known that the VA is a very stressed and broken method of treating our vets. Even when I was still posted in Germany I had no outprocessing and returned home without a medical screening. This was after being posted right next to a nuclear facility which had been blown up twice in the past and "yellow cake" was noted on my medical records. Funny how all the records for my entire battle group was lost on the return home from the desert.
I won't wave a flag and claim to be a supporter of corporate America, but I damn sure won't ever trust a leftist, either. Our soldiers are willing to give everything for this country, and it's about time the politicians start doing the same. As far as I'm concerned, I won't ask for a handout and won't expect one, but there are other veterans out there who desperately need help.

I have tinnitus. I havent stepped foot in a VA. I also have sleep apnea, or so my wife says. I have buddies always tell me to file a claim. I always say the same thing. Hell no. I've been a firearms instructor for 8 or 9 years. I'd expect that comes with a little tinnitus. I'm not blaming the AF for my issues."I drink a great deal. I sleep a little, and I smoke cigar after cigar. That is why I am in two-hundred-percent form."

If you have apnea, go get it fixed. You don't have to have the VA pay for it, but it's a life changer when you get it fixed....@ScotchnSmoke sux lots of large wéiners. And tons of small ones.1
