The 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, 1918 was the cease fire between the allies and the German empire which was later designated Veterans Day. It was originally called Armistice Day, commemorating the end of World War I and was so named until June 1, 1954 when it became Veterans Day for us living veterans. Memorial Day honors deceased veterans.
Happy Veterans Day to all us veterans of one war or another.

Very well said. Thank you Mikey. Honoring our still serving hero, SFC Yadira Cruz, USA. 6 deployments overseas, 2 in Kosovo, 3 in Iraq, 1 in Afganistan. Wounded in the needless invasion of Iraq in 2003, drove over a land mine while attempting to pick up a disabled Abrams with her tank recovery vehicle.

Evening dm! We're so proud of her. She crawled out of the cab, wounded, thinking it might explode, and came under small arms fire, already wounded, and got hit in the right leg. She fired back and the 3 Iraqis ran away. She did not get a Purple Heart at the time because of political reasons, women were not supposed to be in combat zones. But as a veteran myself, I fought it, and finally in 2010 she got her much deserved Purple Heart.

Big B-Day party tonight, Abuela turned 92. Dinner, flowers, presents, but we did not put 92 candles on the cake. Just Happy Birthday spelled out with letter candles, and she blew them all out.
