She showed up on my doorstep yesterday... yes... I am very pumped..

So I am getting ready to season and I think I am going to use beads for the first time. I have a pretty detailed thread for seasoning. PM me if your interested, it's on a different forum so I'll be discreet...
Anyway, thoughts on beads? I've never used them before nor have I ever had a humi this big. It's just over 900 cu in. I was thinking of getting 2-3 the MED tubes which would give me some of the overage that I want. I could really get away with 2 med tubes, but I want some extra coverage. Any thoughts on this? I REALLY want to nail this.

These are the beads I'd recommend. You'll never run out, and they work like a charm.

ive heard good things about those cat litter beads.
i just have a irrational aversion to putting beads in my humidor that were designed for a cat to *** on.
a few other makers have beads. my advice is to use two times more than you think you will need. this will keep you RH spot on. in the summer decharge them a bit and in the winter over charge them a bit. spring and fall i keep about 50%-60% charged.
works out well. i like em.
man... that WaxingMoon sure puts out a quality product.

I know it will take a little while for it to season.... There's a lot of spanish cedar in there that needs to "acclimate".... But, once it does... you should be good to go! Enjoy, Bro!0

Google "kitty litter beads" and you'll find plenty of threads about it. They work like 'cigar' beads, without the expense.lilwing88:

Yea, but wouldn't the air freshners make your sticks taste funny? Or do they make scent-free?Unthought_Known:

There are different types. The ones to buy are unscented, and the only ingredient is 'silica gel'.0

I bought the Conservagel beads online. They were less than Heartfelt and the mesh bags were free. I've had them a couple of months now in my two larger humis and they have worked great.0

When I got beads on line they were available in 2 humidity options 65 or 70. I assume from Kuzi's post you just let the litter de-charge when you want to go down, charge when you want to go up? Does this stuff have a RH setting? Also 'silica gel' is in every "dry pack" ever made - comes with some electronics and clothes. The little bags are mesh should I be OK to spray this and use it like a humi pillow?0 -
I'm glad I took the recommendation on these. A pound of beads and a mesh bag or two for $20 was awesome. They work great.YankeeMan:I bought the Conservagel beads online. wow... i don't log on for day and get 15 replies... So I broke down and got the heartfelt beads... went with the XL tube of 70%...
I'll get this thing going as soon as they arrive. I don't want to start before I have the beads in hand. I'm gonna be pretty precise on this one...
Thanks for all the feedback fellas. I will keep you all updated with some photos and as soon as she is primed and stocked, I'll post more... I'm like a proud papa! Maybe I'll go celebrate with a Oliva O...0
