Yeah, I subscribe to the NYT Sunday edition, among other papers, so the bot is, I guess, part of the package.
My third guess was sheer luck, there were 62 words to choose from and I lucked out.

With so many words to choose from I should have stopped guessing and switched to a process of elimination rather than keeping the first three letters in place.
I have to struggle with paying attention to what I don't know but it is so much easier to run with what I do know, often a mistake.
