Cold conditioned air will settle towards the floor. If you run your exhaust ducting along the upper reaches of the building, it’ll pull less cold air out; hot air rises. You’re gonna lose some regardless unless you put a recirculating system in. Maybe a diverter on the AC unit to direct airflow downwards and sideways? Stick a flapper valve in the duct upstream of the blower to prevent heat loss during winter. A 4 inch dryer vent with a flapper in it at the wall will add an extra layer of protection against cold air intrusion too. They’ll open up when the blower is running. Think critter prevention as well. 1/4 inch mesh over the exhaust port oughta do it.

Have the ventilation planned out now and if all goes well this weekend I’ll have the ceiling framing done and all the wiring completed. The goal is to have the apple ready for insulation by the end of the weekend. Got the speaker wire and an rca in today. With the bar/entertainment center I have in mind I’m going to hide the powered subwoofer under the built in bench seating hence the rca.

Well ladies and gents, here is the long awaited update for your entertainment pleasures. Thanks to help from friends and family, we have gotten a lot of work done on The Poison Apple since my last post.
Here is where we started out last weekend.
Thanks to my best friend Allen, who thankfully knows more about building than I do, we got a lot knocked out in just a couple of days worth of work.
He pointed out some stuff I never would have thought of till it was too late. For instance none of my corners were framed in for drywall so there was nothing for the drywall to attach to.
To start our first day off we made a shopping list of odds and ends that we could fill with a quick trip to the local hardware store. After that and recovering from the cost of 2x4s these days it was back to the apple.
Then it was on to removing the remaining old work lights. After some measuring and test fitting we decided to raise the ceiling 5 inches. That gives better placement for the 6 LED lights, in ceiling speakers, and room for the ventilation system. We got a few of the rafters in before Allen had to go and then my boys took turns helping their old man out. We got about half a dozen in followed by wiring up four of the six lights.
^In the last picture you can see the old rafter under the new showing how much we moved things up.The next night we finished putting in the new rafters and knocking out the old. Topped off with wiring in the remaining two LEDs. I thought I was going to need two more, but after getting them in I am more than happy with the six.
Of course I had to take sometime to enjoy the fruits of our labor with a stick, my boy Buddy and hanging out with you folks on the vHerf.
Today though I only got one picture but we knocked out a lot of work. Here’s the list of what Allen and I knocked out.
Planned out the height of the bar, tv and shelving.
Relocated the current 110v outlets.
Installed a few new 110v outlets.
Installed all of the low voltage boxes.
Ran the rca from the bar to the other end of the room for the subwoofer.
Ran the speaker wire for the 5.1 surround sound system.
Put in the blocks for the shelves.
Stapled down the wiring for the ceiling lights.
Ran hdmi, cat6, coaxial and optical cables from the bar to the tv.
Ran the 110v circuits for the sconces going in above the windows and the exterior outlets.
Got the corners framed in.I’m sure I am missing a thing or two as well.
All this to say, I am very proud of how far we have made it in such a short time and am very lucky to have friends and family helping me along the way.

Looks pretty good! You might wanna run a tie strap between your rafter & the cross member... just to add a bit of shear strength. It looks a little thin at that bottom fastener.

Today was a busy day at The Poison Apple. We got the last of the framing done at each end of the building. We had to build out from the existing structure using 2x4’s and some plywood.
Also put in the last of the shelf supports on what will be the left side of the tv. Here is a shot showing the prewiring and the supports.
After that we cut in two outlets and one switch for exterior power and some string lights I plan on running off the back corner of the apple. The switch is on the exterior so you won’t have to go inside just to kick on the pendent lights.
Since all the framing is now complete, I enlisted the boys to move all the extra lumber out to the garage. That was followed up by a quick clean up including the mandatory panoramic progress shot.
Next 4 steps between me and insulation is:
1. Install exterior farm house lights above windows.
2. Fix AC unit and treat for water leak.
3. Design and install exhaust system.
4. Have power run from the house to the apple.Thanks for following along and all of the great input you guys have shared with me as this has progressed.

@MrsShrek85 ordered these for me for Christmas.
There will be one over each window. The have photocells built in so they will automatically kick on and off with the sunset and sunrise.
After they are wired in I can start insulating. Which I’m actually picking some insulation up on Sunday too.10 -

Well my plan was to just run an electric heater. After some round table discussion on the vHerf, I’m tempted to do a wood stove or a small gas fireplace. We shall see though.

Annnd roughly 3 years since kicking this project off, I have found new purpose and resources to get back on track. (In large part to needing room for a home office space with the new gig starting soon)
Today’s focus was to install the exterior lighting and insulation. First step was clearing some stored items like pool floats, totes and a pop up play house. After that I dug in to the installation of the barn lights.
It went surprisingly fast and I think the end result really adds to the build and the backyard.
On to the insulation.
Picked some r13 batts and a roll from my buddy Allen for a steal of a deal. Heck he even came over to help me put it up!
There are a few spaces left to fill but here is the interior progress shot.
Looking forward to all the work to come to make this a great office and lounge.

Today’s progress:
1st order of business was to remove the busted window unit in the wall.

Then blocked up and sheeted the hole with plywood that I sealed with caulk and will paint soon. (It’s on the back of the building so it’s not an eye sore or priority in getting the Apple functional.)
Then I nabbed another roll of insulation and fell just shy of being done with the walls. Thankfully my buddy has a piece large enough to fill the two sections I am short so I won’t have to buy more for the walls.
Also had an electrician stop by. He gave me a few tips and a quote of $800 if I have the trench dug for him. Have another one coming out Thursday to see what he has to say on the matter. 5 weeks to go before I need a useable space to work.
