This new to me. Using kitty litter in a cooler for humidity, what is the latest word or opinion on this. If it works , is their a certain type, brand, or something to look for

Seems like Boveda is the new (since I last smoked ) demi-god of humidification. When I left the cigar world it was sponge and poly magic juice. Thanks
Yeah I’ve been through floral foam, sponges, beads, jars, cat litter…you name it. Cat litter does work. Once you’ve got everything you need and set it up. That part can be the hassle. I’ve found that boveda is hassle free and reliable.
Same here. 12 pounds in a couple of trays.
I think I figured out it would have cost me $800 for the same amount if I used Bovedas.
One other thing I use is a couple 1" x 6" cedar boards to act as humidity storage...No Idea if it works, but it makes me feel better.
I still have kitty litter in a leaky humidor that I have to recharge every week. Have 3 large bovedas in a 55 quart cooler that I might have to recharge once a year.
Edit: with enough room in the cooler to keep the weed happy.

You thinking of switching everything over to the cooler or still keeping both setups going?

Often we run single digits on humidity here but 3 of the large boveda keep the 55 quart happy with minimal recharge. Your weather is the biggest variable. I don't even know how you de-charge a boveda as I only add humidity.

@ScotchnSmoke sux lots of large wéiners. And tons of small ones.
I bought a brick of the cooler sized ones a couple years back and I've only opened a quarter of them. We are also never trying to remove humidity, only add, so I didn't expect them to last nearly as long as they have.

Boveda
Don't let the wife know what you spend on guns, ammo or cigars.
Boveda, but if you really want to go KL, make sure you get the unscented kind.
The kitty litter thing is the crystals type, not regular kitty litter. Don't bother, boveda is the best method.
Trapped in the People's Communist Republic of Massachusetts.

Dry begging for kitty litter.,....I'll see if I can help out......
And I thought I would never turn down a cigar.
Some old curmudgeons on here still use kitty litter. I say Boveda
My favorite cigar list here
Old curmudgeon here, cloth bags of kitty litter in the Iris boxes. Works just fine.

The leaky humidor was a gift from wifey, so I use it to display some dog rockets Frank sent me, if you come by to visit don't take one out of there.
I over did my Boveda's when I got my coolador, but never replaced/recharged one yet.

How many, what size, and how big of an area, appreciate any input.
Huge difference for sure.
The area will determine how many and what size you’ll need.

A good cigar and whiskey solve most problems.
