He wasn't. He was the first Secretary of the Treasury under Washington, but never President.

He was shot on the 10th or 11th. Died on the 12th.

I wish I had researched that. 1440 news was wrong. He was shot by Burr but because he wouldn’t endorse him for President or when he ran for a Governors spot which Burr took offense to and challenged him to a duel.

Just learned today that my 8 cylinder truck has 16 spark plugs. Which makes sense, especially in a Hemi engine, but, I didn't know.

Interesting thing, we all, or nearly all, learned in school that Hamilton did the "gentlemanly thing" and fired his shot into the air, while Burr took aim and fired, killing his opponent. I saw a documentary a few years back that reported that Hamilton, who provided the weapons for the duel, had altered his weapon to give it a hair-trigger. He merely underestimated the low amount of pressure, and was actually planning to make sure he killed Burr by use of this deception. Not so gentlemanly, or even just manly, after all.

Different scenario. You're used to that, the dueling pistols were single shot, and Burr of course would never had held it. Hamilton assumed he'd have an advantage, but probably never practiced with it. That was what was inferred, anyway. I wasn't there, so, there's that.

Meticulously aged Dominican tobaccos inside its stately toro frame weave a full-bodied architecture that blends the maison’s hallmark elegance with unapologetic intensity. The inaugural draws greet the palate with pepper-tinged espresso and roasted nuts, soon softened by a subtle, natural sweetness that rounds the profile into poised harmony. Progressing through the smoke, each transition—cedar to spice, cocoa to cream—unfolds with silken precision, captivating seasoned aficionados while inviting adventurous newcomers to explore its depth. Produced in scarce quantities, this cigar crowns any collection with a statement of timeless sophistication and richly textured pleasure.

    What was the cigar?

    From 1440:

    OceanGate Implosion Findings

The US Coast Guard released its report yesterday on the 2023 OceanGate submersible implosion, concluding the disaster was preventable and directly caused by the company’s disregard for safety protocols. The Titan submersible imploded in the Atlantic Ocean during a paid trip to explore the Titanic wreck, killing all five passengers on board.

The 335-page report identifies eight primary engineering failures and four contributing factors, finding that OceanGate’s leadership dismissed safety concerns, failed to properly test and certify the vessel, and intimidated employees who raised alarms—including by filing a SLAPP lawsuit against a whistleblower. The company operated Titan outside accepted deep-sea safety standards and exploited regulatory loopholes, neglecting independent certification and adequate life-cycle safety checks. Cost-cutting measures also likely compromised safety, such as storing Titan outdoors in the Canadian winter and using only four bolts to secure the forward dome instead of the required 18. See design choices here.

The report is separate from the National Transportation Safety Board investigation, which is expected to release its findings later this year.

We need a second report to boot?

"The purpose of what I’m doing is primarily to pay down debt, which will happen in very large quantity,” Trump told media earlier this month. “But I think there’s also a possibility that we’re taking in so much money that we may very well make a dividend to the people of America.”

The plan sounds welcome, in theory. But there’s just one problem. At present, tariff revenues don’t even cover the interest on the debt—let alone reduce its overall size.

According to Treasury data seen by Fortune, the accrued interest expense on Treasury notes in July alone was $38.1 billion. Add to that $13.9 billion in interest on Treasury bonds, $2.85 billion on Treasury Floating Rate Notes (FRN) and a total of $6.1 billion across Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS) assets. The bill is eye-watering: The total comes to $60.95 billion for the month.

By contrast, Treasury statements show that tariffs only brought in $29.6 billion to offset it. An impressive figure, but still not enough to rival interest payments.
