PM2.5 pollution from EV charging expected to increase risk of lung and heart disease

UCLA researchers have measured unusually high levels of PM2.5 in the air around direct current fast-charging EV stations, raising concerns about the potential health impacts of electric vehicles. The measurements were taken in Los Angeles County, California.

The term PM2.5 refers to particulate matter 2.5 micrometers in diameter or smaller. Both PM2.5 and PM10 are known to have adverse effects on health, while PM2.5 is still more deadly as it penetrates deeper into the human body.

The California Air Resources Board conducted a study and found that children living in areas with high levels of PM2.5 had slower lung growth. At age 18, they also had smaller lungs compared to their counterparts in areas with lower levels of PM2.5. In addition, PM2.5 contributes to about 2,800 hospitalizations for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, and about 6,700 emergency room visits for asthma each year in California. There are other negative health effects also attributed to PM2.5.

The recent study by some UCLA researchers measured daily PM2.5 concentrations at 7.2 to 39 micrograms per cubic meter in direct current fast-charging EV stations. These numbers are significantly higher than what was found in urban areas without these charging stations — 3.6 to 12.4 micrograms per cubic meter.

That’s exactly what I would do if I was a government office. I would find all the cyber vulnerabilities, put them in a list, also list what kind of software they use, and make that list public. That way it will be more efficient for anyone that wants to exploit those vulnerabilities.

Jesus, where is the big red stop button?

Millions of images of passports, credit cards, birth certificates, and other documents containing personally identifiable information are likely included in one of the biggest open-source AI training sets, new research has found.

Thousands of images—including identifiable faces—were found in a small subset of DataComp CommonPool, a major AI training set for image generation scraped from the web. Because the researchers audited just 0.1% of CommonPool’s data, they estimate that the real number of images containing personally identifiable information, including faces and identity documents, is in the hundreds of millions. The study that details the breach was published on arXiv earlier this month.

Can we shut down AI yet, or do we need to wait until the genie can't be put back in the bottle?

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) drew widespread mockery Thursday over a since-deleted social media post that showed how the cost of groceries skyrocketed under former President Joe Biden.

The X post included a graph of soaring cheese, alcohol, dairy, grocery, produce and meat prices dating back to October 2019, with the major inflection point being near the start of the Biden administration in 2021.

“Trump’s America,” read the tweet shared by @TheDemocrats.

“Prices are higher today than they were on July 2024 all in major categories listed below,” read the caption on the graphic, which did not note the source of the data.

This one was already before the ones you're already referencing. But, you already knew that and just wanted me to say it again.

Yep, that was my whole point. To get you to repeat yourself, especially considering how much you don’t enjoy doing it. But just to be clear, I wasn’t necessarily referencing your post because, in my opinion, it fits the category. I was however referencing the fact that it instantly caused replies that insulted peoples’ intelligence simply because of a political party.

But you already knew that and just wanted me to say it.

    You’re welcome

There's Rusty trying to make me feel bad. I was merely referencing a post in a different, non-political thread, in which people of one leaning were called uneducated.
Both mine and the other were meant in jest, so I'm not sorry. :)
