Sutliff English Crumble Cake #1 in the Nording Black Smooth Freehand.

Something struck me last time I smoked this pipe. The cutaway section at the top left side of the bowl. I'd always just assumed that "Freehand" was a reference to the pipe not being made by automated processes. I had visions of a craftsman painstakingly shaping and forming the pipe with hand tools.

As I was sitting there with the pipe in my left hand I realized that my thumb was in that cutaway groove covering the opening of the bowl. Left hand, Freehand! It's a perfect fit! Not sure there's actually a connection, perhaps my first impression was the right one. Things to ponder.

Found an article on Smokingpipes, my first impression was the right one. Nording likes to use the shape of the briar burl and incorporate its inconsistencies into the design of the pipe. No cookie cutter design for the Freehands. Cool.
