Any of your lighters have a punch built in?0

I have a cousin (actually dad's cousin) that has smoked 3-5 cigars a day for forty years. He's never used a cutter. . . only his teeth. Maybe because he's dentist? Just bite a little off a time. I've had to do it about a dozen times and have never had a problem.0

I'v had to use my pocketknife twice. It worked. One God, One Truth0

Nice sharp pocket knife.0
-
Depending on the vitola, you could punch a nice hole with a golf tee.0
-
sharp knife......many people think their knife is sharp, when it ain't even close to sharp....if you're not sure, get a razor blade from a cutter
Golf tee??......not me.........I'd use a nail that I sharpened with a stone

Was just about to say that. Knife blades usually aren't as sharp as you think. A box cutter blade should work perfect. I do think a good knife could carve out a punch though.KingoftheCove:

I've used the tip end of the small blade of my pocketknife a couple times successfully. I stab rather than slice and a few stab cuts in a small circle is as good as a punch hole. Just sayin'........0 -

Marty's bear paws holding the small blade of a pocket knife, performing surgery on a fine cigar, while sipping a nice bourbon (or three)!
Considering your vision is only slighty better than mine, what you did was damn near a miracle!

wrong.....the Beard simply "flicks" the head of the cigar with his middle finger, resulting in a perfect cut.............ShotgunJohn:The Beard just uses his teeth!!!!

I've had this happend to me at work. Luckily my supply has boxes of brand new razors. If I am out of a cutter, I'll usually just wait. Nothing wrong with saving a smoke until the evening.0

And may poo be unto you, as well. LOL0 -
Used a screw. So far so good.0

i use my pocket knife when i dont have my cutter, but instead of cutting because it will crush it, i use the point to carve a hole in the end, works great and dont mess up the cigar...0
-
I guess I have a sharper knife than most, I just sliced off the end. No offence, but there is no sense in having a dull knife. One God, One Truth0
-
Some pretty good ideas here that I never thought of. I usually just pull out the pocket knive and very carefully slice the smallest sliver off the cap as I can. But now I usually have my punch keyring around.0
-
I used to keep mine like a razor..but after a slip and almost loosing a finger, I keep it sharp but not enough to slice as easy lolroland_7707:I guess I have a sharper knife than most, I just sliced off the end. No offence, but there is no sense in having a dull knife.0 -
had that problem alot. i just kept buying cutters. now that i own 10 or more i can almost always find one0

Ouch, yeah I have lost the tip of my right thumb to a mistake. One God, One Truth0

Yeah, I could use a screw, myself, now that I think of it.... Oh, no, wait! Wrong thread! Sorry..........LOL0 -
I think someone mentioned on the boards before but a good way to cut, especially on delicate wrappers, is to just cut to cap first by making a surface incision in a circle. Just keep going a bit deeper with every revolution of the stick till the cap wrapper comes off. If you don't like the little bit of loose filler you can cut that flat one the cap is off. This is much better than trying to saw the sole head off at once. It works well with curved cutter blades but I am sur works with a sharp straight blade too.0

This is the method I use when I don't have a cutter handy, except instead of using a knife or a blade of any sort I use my fingernail. Works great!chemforever:I think someone mentioned on the boards before but a good way to cut, especially on delicate wrappers, is to just cut to cap first by making a surface incision in a circle. Chuck Norris just stares at his cigars until a perfect cut appears and the cigar apologizes !!!0

Are there certain styles of sticks that you should punch instead of using a cutter on? Or, iis it just a personal preference?0
-
It's all preference, brother.0

Thank ya muchlyBigT06:It's all preference, brother.0 -
I use my fingernail and tear the cap off with it whenever I forget mine. Also a match can work as a punch0

Was at the casino last week. Forgot the cutter, only had matches. When I finsihed the steak and shrimp, I wiped off the steak knife and sliced the cap right off. F*uck it man, just gimma a way to get a draw off that sucker and I will figure out the rest.0

I've used a pen knife plenty of times. It'll do in a pinch (and obviously you'll need to order a backup cutter for such occasions).0
