I was there last summer. To be honest, I wouldn't trust anything that area sells you. Punta Cana is all tourist and the locals will try and get a buck no matter what. We had a decent cigar shop on our resort. But I still didn't trust them for popular cigars not available in other places, it was all to shady for me. I was also told by the hotel staff not to buy cigars from the locals on the beach, that they are banana peels rolled in tobacco wrapper. It was a great time, just shady when it came to buying things. Just my thoughts.

There are 2 places that I remember from last year. I will get the info when I get home from work tonight and post.
I went to Punta Cana last June. I went to Don Lucas cigars, and went on their tour. They have their own cigars, as well as a walk-in humidor with a pretty good selection of other manufactures. You have to call them and set up a time to visit, it was worth it to me.
But stay away from beach vendors, nothing is real.
Cooch,
Most resorts have a cigar shop on site, but they are expensive. What resort are you going to? My wife and I stayed a week at Excellence Punta Cana. Amazing! They had a cigar shop on site that carried real ISOMs. Pretty pricey though.
I would suggest checking out Don Lucas Cigars while you are down there, it has a shop for souveniers, you can buy Dominican rum, and cigars there. Do a google search on it.
Another great place I found is in Bavaro, in the strip mall across the street from the Bavaro Princess Resort and Casino. It is called Diego Cigars. The owner of the small shop makes his own cigars on site. I bought a box of Churchills and he gave me a free wooden ashtray. Again, I was given a free sampler in the shop to try before I decided to buy.
Enjoy your trip to Punta Canada.
I loved Excellence. Would love to go back. I'd advise you to not go on the horseback riding trip the hotel has. Those poor horses are very mistreated. Also, the only beach vendor that is worth anything is Nancy's.
I didn't have any trouble getting cigars back in the states, but I only brought back dominican cigars.
The swim up bar at Excellence has a bartender named Dorling, he'll make you anything you ask for, sometimes he pretends to no speak english, but he's messing with you. Enjoy the food, drinks, and beach!
