Dried out cigars

Hey folks,

How would I restore freshness to a dried out cigar? Has anyone tried soaking cigars in wine or rum? Any results?

Unless you want dried out cigars that taste like wine or rum, I'd recommend against that. Depending on how dry they are, you'll want to get them into a more humid environment. If it were me, I'd start them around 60% and keep them there for 2-3 months. After they have been allowed to stabilize, the next step would be to move them up to 65% and again let them stabilize for another 2-3 months. Finally they would go into 70% and left there for as long as it takes to get them in good smoking shape, could be 6+ months at that. This is dependant on how dry they were to begin with, the drier they are the longer it will take.

You should also keep in mind that while you can restore lost humidity to dried out cigars, you can't restore the oils once they've evaporated. If the cigar has been dried out for too long, it might not be worth the effort to try and revive them.
