Reasonable Soft Flame Lighter

Does anyone know of a good soft flame butane lighter and more importantly where to get it online? I don't want to spend more than 40bucks, but it seems like they are tough to find at that price range. Don't say Bic. hahaha, its a present for a friend.

This is something I've been looking for too; although a torch can light your cigar in a few seconds, I've heard that a soft flame gives better taste - can anyone tell me why?
  • Lower temperature would be my guess. The tobacco doesn't get as scorched.

I use this lighter about 50% of the time, and 100% of the time when I need or want a soft flame. It has a torch that is activated by opening the cover, and then switches to a soft flame by compressing the side button and closing the torch cover. It is really awesome, reliable, heavy duty, and most of all, cheap. I bought two just so that one is always full. I LOVE it, and highly recommend it. Bryan (Kaeleria) did a review of it on cigarobsession.com

    exactly.

ive been looking as well. however, i have got quite good at lighting a cigar with a torch so there is no bad flavors initially. iduno... still looking. Ive been so happy with my Xikar Executive that i may stick with the brand and just get a different model.

Xikar Exodus is a very nice soft flame lighter. It has a strong flame that deals with wind well. They are $60 here, but I bought mine on auction for much less.

This: http://www.xikar.com/product_lighter_allure.asp is what I have, except I had them put a gunmetal case on it when I bought it. I am absolutely in love with this lighter! I don't even use a torch at all any more. If I don't have this thing handy I just use matches! I doubt that I will ever go back to a torch.

How does it hold up on windy days? I know some of XiKar's soft flames are supposed to be wind resistant.

It does alright. No where near the resiliency of a torch, but WAY better than a match. I just turn my back and use a hand if needed (rarely) and it lights like a champ! I seriously recommend you get this. Check around online and you can get one for a decent price. this is the best cigar investment I have made in the last 2 years.

i am a xikar nerd. Why didn't I think of asking them to put a different case on it? I honestly don't know why they had to pick all ugly colors to begin with for that lighter. Why couldn't one of em couldn't be black?

I have a Prometheus that I got from an old friend but I can't seem to find it on their website. Them, like Colibiri change designs so often that I can't keep up. I got mine back in maybe 2006.

This is similar to what I have but more than you want to spend.
