Aged smokes taste salty?

Like most of you I have sticks I've been aging for some time. Really got into cigars about 3 yrs ago. Some of the inventory is nearing that age. I've notice that after about 18 mos. the cigar wrapper really has a salty flavor. This is also evident pre-light so it is not coming from the filler. Usually once I heat it up - the salt dies down. Any thoughts? Is this normal?

if its an Ecuadorian cigar there is a chance that this is the case. many people notice salty tastes in tobacco from Ecuador. age on this particular cigar may have let that flavor shine.
