So, the hotel I work at just re-opened the restaurant on Thursday for the first time since Katrina. I was hired about 5 months ago to get the bar open, since then I've been the only food/beverage employee in the whole hotel. My job title was "bartender", but I've been pretty much managing myself. In preparation for the restaurant, a full staff was hired, including a new F&B manager. After the first day the new restaurant was open, the manager walked out.
During the preparations and opening, everyone was relying on me pretty heavily anyway, since I had been around for a while, knew the computer systems, etc. Yesterday I was offered the job managing the restaurant and bar. Today I accepted. The new position roughly doubles my pay, plus benefits (including free valet parking, sweet). While it involved more responsibilites, if anything the schedule actually works better for school.
To celebrate, I'm smoking the Opus X urbi sent me.
