Good Morning. Starting the day with a Mombacho Liga Maestro 6x46 from a COTM 5-pack....
Well, that Mombacho was really good!
My turn with the Mombacho Liga Maestro this morning paired with water. I get distinctive raisin notes from the pre-light from the rich volcanic soils and a good, rich flavor smoke with a little black pepper burn on the retrohale but tastes on the milder side, but the pepper note did make me sneeze once. I'm getting some raisin notes in the first third, is that a stone fruit? I think not, but plums are a member of the prunus genus that includes the stone fruits and I could be convinced of a rich prune note in there if I think about it long enough. There is certainly a dark, sweet fruit flavor in there that's a flavor analog to dried fruits, not fresh stone fruits. The www.foodpairing.com website suggests that this cigar might pair well with a Cognac with complimentary raisin notes.
By the middle third, the cigar seems a bit milder and I'm getting less pepper in the retrohale. The burn is not razor sharp, but this is probably user error, I haven't had to make any corrections at this point. I was able to slip off the secondary band without too much trouble as the cigar continues to tend more towards the mild side, good for a morning smoke.
Closing in on the final third, this has been an enjoyable cigar, not very dynamic with flavor changes, just tending towards a milder smoke as you go along, but I would recommend trying it as a fiver but you might find a better deal in a box of twelve.
