Best of 2008

I was thinking back to all of the smokes I've had this year and could only come up with a few that I would put in this catagory. So I thought I would share and perhaps we all contribute so maybe some smokes that one wouldn't think of would be tried. I really haven't had any that would be under the radar but here goes:

2006 Carlito God of Fire robusto
CAO America Landmark
Comacho Triple Maduro
La Flor Dominicana Ligero 500

The only cigar I've had this year that was extremely good and also might be one that not everyone has tried would have to be the La Flor Dominicana Cameroon Cabinet. This is a blend that is somewhat limited in its production because it is made at a small factory and the attention to quality is superb, therefor it is at times hard to come by and that might make it a cigar that flies a bit below the radar. It is very good however, and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a good cigar at a fairly reasonable price.

I just came back to cigars this year, so there've been lots of discoveries for me. Not so many that would be news to anybody else. A few that might fit the category and be lesser known (though I and, in some cases, a few others here talk about them a lot):

    CI Legends Purple (Graycliff)
    Punch Gran Puro
    the lancero vitola

The last one obviously isn't a specific cigar, but various cigars in that vitola have been major discoveries for me this year.

I should also say that, thanks to you two, I've had the opportunity to try the LFD Cam Cab (and have 2 more), and have some GoF's resting in the humi.

My best of the year without a doubt is the Gurkha Shaggy Natural Torpedo! I'm sure there are others that I really liked but this particular cigar stands out infront of all others for me!

Urby, I have a few of those CI purples sitting, first one I had wasn't that great, kept burning out, probably do to the cold. And those GOF's are pretty good.

No doubt. I probably won't try one until spring, so the weather doesn't interfere with the experience.

No kidding. I've almost got my garage cleaned out so maybe when I get that done and put some heaters in there I can get some good smoking done..

My list was of best cigars of 2008 that maybe were a bit under the radar. If we're talking best cigars of 2008, period, I'd probably say:

    Don Carlos
    R&J Reserva Real
    AVO Domaine
    Camacho 1962 (perfecto)

There are some others that might be in that same league, but they haven't firmly established themselves for me, yet. The prime example of that is the Monte White.

Ashton ESG (Estate sun grown) Robusto 21-----Fuente Anejo #77 (Shark)----Fuente #55 Torpedo----Java Toro----The Ashton ESG Robusto was great although I had a Ashton  ESG churchill #20 that I could take or leave.

let me tell you, i had my first winston churchill last night, a marrakesh, and it was phenomenal. Great GREAT smoke! My new favorite stick i would have to say. I was at my local B&M talking to one of the sales clerks and he recommended the marrakesh specifically as in his experiences he has found it to be the most pleasant out of all of the winston churchill blends. now im just anxious to try the rest! I also would as the rocky patel decade and the padron 1964 anniversary both were excellent

    Hmmm...

Gotta be the Oliva V overall. Also, my favorite usual smoke the Oliva G. I found the Camacho '62 this summer which was a nice surprise. The RP I-Press wasn't so bad either.

Second chances for the Nub...had one that was all that great but I need to try another.

I need to pick some up and put in the humi. I think I got a '64 resting, it's not bad either. Padrons over all are good.

THe '64 is a damn fine smoke as well and you sir are correct you can't go wrong with a padron. Way to go Jorge.

Ahem...Jose you mean? Jorge might be the go-to guy now, but there would be no Padron without Jose working his tail off to create a cigar company true to his heritage. Oh, and if you couldn't tell, I am a bit of a Padron fan.
