Will this work (wineador + fan question)

Say I have a wineador and some fans going continuously - if the fans are blowing directly on some of my cigars, but the entire wineador is properly humidified, will the cigars dry out?

On the one hand, I think continuous blowing would dry them out (no ****), but then again, if the air is 65-68% RH, it seems like it wouldn't have any effect?

me personally in my cabinet I have a small bowl of distilled water with a fac that bends over the top of the bowl blowing the humidity right up where all the cigars sit....those cigars never have dried out yet so i dont think it would effect it.

I'm pretty confident that a fan blowing directly onto cigars will cause them to be drier. Now, whether it would dry them out to the point that will cause some problems, I don't know. But my point is, I think those cigars will be drier than your other cigars that don't have air directly blown at them. It's a simple matter of convection where the "wind" will cause water in the tobacco to evaporate at a greater rate. I think it'd be best to redirect the flow of air from the fan so that it still performs its function, that being circulating the moisture so that the humidity between the upper and lower layers of your wineador remain the same, but also so that every cigar is experiencing an equal degree of convection.

+1. If you think in terms of "micro climates" in gardening it is the same situation. The side of a house can help increase heat, lower wind effect, raise and or lower humidity depending on sun exposure etc. The fan blowing directly on the sticks would cause them to dry out more then sticks which were just exposed to the RH of your humidor without the fan. Can you redirect the flow of air up the side or along the bottom so the it circulates from top to bottom and back?

Yeah, it's not a problem yet; I'm due to get the Hydra humidifier with the 3 fan kit and I've been trying to figure how to arrange the 3 fans with a dual climate vinotemp; one of the zone's is gonna have more circulation than the other.

hey bro could you send some pics of your setup, I've been kicking around getting a wineador for myself and would like to see what the finally product looks like set up.

Not much to set up at this point; all I've done is plug the drain in the bottom with some aquarium sealant (non-toxic, no fumes/safe for fish, so I figure it's safe once it's cured). I plan to put some beads on top of the sealant, so any condensation runs into beads, instead of pooling in the bottom.

As for humidification, I'm pretty much copying what others have done - active humidifier like Hydra or Cigar Oasis, and some beads, all in the bottom. Both Cigar Oasis and Hyrda have fan kits that you can buy, but I went with Hydra because it has two options - fans that run continuously, or fans that run only when the humidifier comes on; CO only has the option to run the fans when the humidifier runs. I'm seen a lot of guys just use Oust fans as well, and they seem to work well, so if you only wanna use beads, the Oust fan would be the way to go

I'm still looking for some trays; honestly, they're pretty expensive - most places like Waxing Moon want somewhere between $20-$25 per tray, and I'm seriously thinking about just doing it myself due to the cost - if I want 5 trays, I'm looking at over $100!! Ridiculous IMO; better to just order some kiln-dried spanish cedar and do it on a spare weekend

As for set up, all the threads I've seen include beads in the bottom - some have an active humidifier, some don't. Here's the threads I followed when I was setting mine up:

Good day, I live in Henderson, NV - just outside of Las Vegas. I bought a NewAir 28 bottle wineador about 6 months ago.
I followed all of the recommendations in the owner's manual as well as info I found online such as plugging the drain port, adding a fan to circulate the air, use humidity beads and a Oasis active humidification system. All was hunky-dory until recently. The inside temp jumped to 75 + degrees and the RH plummeted to 60%. Something is wrong ! Can someone help me with some ideas to solve this problem.

I hate to say it, but it sounds like you thermoelectric cooling unit went out. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon with those types of coolers. Search around Google a bit. I believe there are ways to fix it instead of scrapping the whole thing.
