Holy S**t! Forgot about this! Thanks Krieg! My grandpa stormed the beach..... He passed away long before I was born. He was a great man. Always on point with a good one-liner. He was always a positive, happy-go-lucky guy. Which is awesome, considering the horror he witnessed on D-Day. He passed away in the late 60s, sitting in his easy chair, drinking some scotch and smoking a cigarette. I'm gonna smoke a good one for my grandpa Norman and his brothers.

Good thought, lilwing. We should all smoke a good one - for grandpa Norman and all his brothers who stormed the beach and helped preserve our freedom. Light 'em up, boys.....

I had a uncle died in Normandy on D-Day+6. many of us call this "The greatest generation of Americans" and rightly so.

Much thanks for the reminder; I'll light one up for one of our troops' finest moments.

I've been rewatching Band of Brothers for the 10th time or so. The greatest generation of men this country ever had.

Sorry Nick, but my disagree. The term the greatest generation has always rubbed me the wrong way. I dont feel those men are any better than the men served in any other war or conflict. I feel all that have served are great!

Your not wrong, but I wasn't limited that generation to just the war they fought.

Yea but I still don’t like it. I feel all generations are so different and we don’t see that. This is what I love about this forum family we can disagree and have different opinions!

Tonight I will watch The Longest Day, followed in the next few days by Saving Private Ryan, then moving on to the Band of Brothers series over the next few weeks. Been doing it in that order for a decade.
    God Bless those Men.
