It happens every year about this time. Lots of squawking from up north. I think its those big Canadian geese. Then you start seeing of pictures of cigars on dashboards and emanating from these odd looking hooded statues. Maybe I just need some new sunglasses.
You're right. 30 and 40 below is cold. The time I spent in Fairbanks didn't set any records but they also have what they call "ice fog" which is pretty self-explanatory. Can't even see across the street in that stuff.
But I think the coldest I ever saw was 59 below on our jobsite at 9,000 ft, elevation in the Colorado Rockies, back in 1971. That's when I learned that propane won't burn at much below 40 below- it just turns back into a gel and won't run through the pipes or anything.
