Yea, the new one is very nice! I would be disapointed in the size difference, but it looks very nice. The first one is horrible! I can't believe they would ship something that looks that bad! If you have a minute to PM me and tell me where you ordered it I'd be very curious to know.

I just read the story, I also had a similar situation with an auction I had won... But the retailer was very unreasonable. The description said "Glass top humidor" "Lined with spanish cedar" but I recieved a PLEXI glass top and a very strange smelling interior. My girlfriend was laughing at me when I was smelling back and forth between my piano black Savoy that's lined with spanish cedar and the plexi top one. Then the retailer said he wouldn't swap me a different one or refund me. So I called up the peeps at paypal and they got him to refund me and pay the shipping charges. So Mr. Duty, may I call ya Duty? Could I ask you for a PM of whom your decent retailer was?

I'll PM you both the details.

Again, not to go overboard in sticking up for the retailer, but both units arrived in factory-sealed cardboard packaging, that was packed within another shipping box. I am sure the retailer does not open the boxes to inspect the humidors upon receipt. The boxes are simply labeled with the model number, and brief description (model name and capacity). Both of those boxes are the exact same size. There is nothing on the outside to indicate that the contents would be any different.

The rated capacity of the humidor is 100-ct. I had already experimented with the actual capacity while waiting for its replacement, and found it would hold 79 cigars very comfortably (91 stuffed). With further review, the slight height difference on the top tray will eliminate the "stuffed" capacity because it will effectively remove the option of a 3-deep stack, but still hold a 2-deep stack comfortably. My estimate is that the revised "very comfortable" capacity will be 70 cigars. "Very comfortable" means that the humidor is full, but the cigars are still able to breathe.

mmmm humi porn. Duty, those are nice. I'd talk to the retailer before you shipped it back and see if he'd be willing to give it to you at a next to nothing price ... its worth a shot and I know how you are with value ...

Good idea.. I offered them $10 for it. If I knew how to finish wood, I'd strip it and re-finish it myself. I know people on here are good at that sort of thing... If they come through, anybody want a dirt-cheap 100-ct?

Fair enough, doody. Are you willing to publicly name the manufacturer?

The manufacturer is Quality Importers Trading Company

It is very disappointing that a humidor in that condition could have made it out of the factory. It is quite impossible to miss the defects in the finish, and the person viewing the humidors likely thought that the defects were merely a dirty/dusty humidor. However, none of the stains will wipe off with a cloth or any kind of solvent. They are part of the finish. Or the person assigned to inspecting the humidors simply didn't do his job. The construction is very sound, but the finish is horribly unacceptable.

    There's always Krylon.

Most of these have very thin veneers, it's more likely to damage them irreparably if you try to strip an existing finish.

    Yep, that's who I thought.

They import just about all the humi's and accessories we buy.  Many branded differently.

With as much as they handle, a bad one every now and then would be expected.  Maybe moisture was trapped in the plastic (I assume it was wrapped in a plastic bag then in styro then in the box as mine was) and got into the finish.  Stuff happen's but it's great they took care of it.

BTW, I like the finish of the new one much better.  Shiny just doesn't do it for me.

So Quality Importers is actually a manufacturer? Weird.

That's what I thought.... I saw the logo on the piece of paper, and thought, "hmm.. OK, but who made it?" ... then lower down it said "Manufactured by Quality Importers, Inc."
