First box purchase suggestions........

In a month or so, I plan to make my first box purchase.
My budget has to stay close to $200. $225 is OK, $250 is not.
I like med to full cigars.
So far I'm considering these two:
My Father No.1
Tatuaje Miami Petit Cazadores Reserva

Which of the above would you choose?

Any other suggestions?
thanks

  • I'd go with the My Father. And remember, call or email an rep instead of ordering off the website.
  • +1 My Father, or GOF 2007 Carlito, always call or email a rep, only way to go.
  • Cant go wrong with the My Father #1

I agree, My Father is a great stick. I always smoke the My Father 1922

    "Long ashes my friends."

  • Mi Padre.
  • I'd call one of the c.com reps, get 10 Ave Marias, 10 My Father's, and 10 MOW PA's, and you'll still probably have spare change.
  • You arent gonna go wrong with either one King, but if it were me I would go My Father. I think Im becoming obsessed with that line, especially the No.1.

  • wow! looks like My Father a clear winner so far.
JDH has a point............... I could "think" about what I wanted, and the Beard will contact me and set-up pretty good with a variety of sticks for $200.....
It's just that I have never bought a box, and my coolidor will be done in a few weeks, so for the first time, I'll have space for a box.............hmmmm.............decisions..............
  • I have found that just buying the cigars separately is cheaper. However, having the box is cool.

Yes. This. I very rarely buy a box of anything because the DD or Sprint Sale is almost always cheaper per cigar than box price. Sometimes not, but usually.
  • MF hands down IMO
  • My Father! I had one yesterday and I'd recommend them to anyone!! One of my fav smokes actually!

I agree with Kevin on this. If you are going to do the My Father go with the Lancero, you'll be glad you did.
  • I've never inquired about pricing from ccom, but if they have a good deal on Padron '64 then that would be my choice.

The best ones come in super thin cardboard boxes!

I LOVE the MF Lanceros...I feel Lanceros are almost a personal preference stick, either you like em or you dont...I would smoke a Lancero or 2 of any sorts and make sure you like it. The MF #2 is my preferred vitola

Out of curiosity, why would it be better to call or email?
  • Sometimes they are drunk and forget a 0.
    They think highly of themselves.
    They get lonely.
No, seriously. The reps often have latitude to give reduced prices, free shipping, etc.

    Why a rep?
“It has been a source of great pain to me to have met with so many among [my] opponents who had not the liberality to distinguish between political and social opposition; who transferred at once to the person, the hatred they bore to his political opinions.” —Thomas Jefferson (1808)

Depends. My experience with recent production Serie Ds and Serie Ps hasn't been great. In fact, I haven't been a fan of much of any '11 Partagas I've had. That said, '08 through '10 was AMAZING for party Shorts and 898v. Haven't had enough Lusitanias to really say for sure, but I've heard good things about Lusis from 09 and 10. The Serie D No. 4 suffers from overproduction, and as a result quality control problems sometimes, and in 2011 that has been the case in my experience. So if you're going to recent production Partagas, go for the Partagas Shorts, or 898v.

Back on topic (lol), I can't express what a good buy a cab of Tatuaje PCRs is. Can't beat getting 50 (FIFTY DAMMIT!!!) of a great little flavor bomb of a cigar that is that perfect little size to smoke almost any time. PCR might be the best buy Pete has made. The My Father No. 4 is a great option as well. What about a box of Tat Black Petit Lanceros?

They have some leeway on the pricing.

My first box purchase was a mazo of 10 MOW PA's. The little box they came in is currently being used as a container for my cutters and lighter. Good smokes and a de-cluttered counter... Win-win!
