Medium-sized cabinet humidors...

The wife isn't happy with my ugly blue cooler sitting around and there is no way everything is going to fit in my 50ct desktop, so I have been thinking about getting a medium-sized cabinet humidor. I don't need or want one of those huge ones that hold 1000+ sticks, but am thinking something smaller like the size of an end table capable of storing around 500 sticks.
Has anyone built their own small cabinet humidor? If so I'd be interested in how you did it, how much time it took, and how much it ended up costing you to do.
I was thinking of finding a cabinet and sealing it up and lining it with Spanish cedar rather than building something from scratch.
I have found a few online that I like that are something like this one ( Medium sized Cabinet humidor), but can't see spending that much money right now.
