"Ostara" became the Old English word for this now Anglo-Saxon goddess. During the 2nd century, early Christians attempting to convert pagan worshippers called their Christian celebration "Ostara" which later became "Easter."

The Kid is correct.. the chronological order is the opposite of the question. And not the only one.. as the winter solstice (December 21/22) was celebrated as the returning of the SUN by the pre-christian pagans. This was changed by the early Christians to the birth of the SON...
