A friend lost but not forgotten.

Late last night, about midnight, I lost a friend.
Cancer was the culprit.
Pain was the antagonist.
Still Mr. Bush could smile, weak as he was it was there, a smile.
For now he is lost to me but I know we will meet again in the great hereafter.

The first time I had the pleasure of meeting this larger than life man was when he had all but cut his hand off with a table saw.
Seriously, almost off!
As a rag held his hand together, we finished the project he had started, a bathroom remodel.
There was no quit was in this man!
At well over six feet in height and weighing close to three hundred pounds, he was a giant of a man.
A gentle giant.

As with all men with a few years under they're belt he had a vast amount of knowledge to impart into the minds of others and as we worked or sometimes just rode around and talked, I eagerly soaked in as mush as I could.
Yes, you could say I liked him from the first time we met.
A man in the truest sense of the word.
A honest man.
A friend.

Left behind after his eighty-two years of life there is quiet a list of loved ones as well as friends.
Husband, father, grand father, great grandfather and friend to all he met.
This is his legacy.
A good man, simple but true!

Rodney, I am sorry to read about the loss of your close friend. My thoughts/prayers go out to you and everyone who knew him and will miss him.

And it sounds like you two shared a wonderful bond that's very rare these days - I think everyone would wish to have a friend, or be a friend, in the way that he was to you. May he rest peacefully and may you always remember the good times you two shared.
