Project Manana Charity Raffle/Contest for the DR

Hey guys, the fellas over at Cigar Federation have been working hard to put together one of the craziest cigar contests I've ever seen. We contacted all the folks we knew in the community to gather a HUGE assortment of raffle prizes from samplers to boxes, all the way to a trip to the DR. We have had great support from the cigar community as Project Manana helps children in need in the Dominican Republic. All you have to do is donate $10 to get entered to win. You can read more about the raffle HERE.

Click HERE for the lsit of prizes thus far

I'll continue to bump the thread as we gain momentum and the raffle takes place. I'd love it if someone from Ccom got to win. Plenty of boxes to go around of excellent boutiques, and even FFP from Drew Estates.

Thank you brother. Our goal is to raise 5k. From what we have researched, the prize packs in total make it the largest cigar contest/raffle on the web we've ever seen.

Kudos guys, great cause and it's good to be reminded that the internet can be used for other things than just idiotic arguments and porn. ;)

Loads of info on the prizes, fish, but not much mention of what the money is going to accomplish. Maybe you can drum up more bucks if you expand on that. What's this money do other than buy a raffle ticket?

all the money goes to Project Manana

    This is their Mission Statement:
We exist to share the gospel by empowering local churches and individuals to build lasting relationships with impoverished children, their families and communities through nutrition, education, and guidance.

We achieve our goals through charitable donations and child sponsorship, which unites children in need with individual sponsors who wish to address the children's immediate and basic needs. Sponsorship gives poor children the tools and opportunities necessary for success by providing benefits and supporting programs for each child - primarily in the areas of nutrition and education.

It is very similar to sponsoring a child, which you often see on TV commercials and such. Generally speaking, when Project Manana is approaching someone for donations, it is to sponsor a child to my understanding. In our case, given the magnitude of what we hope to accomplish, the result will have a broader scope of influence. I'll get with the director and get a more clear cut answer. Honestly, one of our guys was approached to sponsor a child, a conversation ensued, and we decided to go nuts and raise as much money as possible. The director is a CRA guy with ties to the industry.

Thank you 21, it is much apprecaited. I got an email back from Brian Berman, the director and here is what he had to say:

As for the specific funds relating to the CF raffle, we are going to dedicate them to our current building project of a Nutrition Center & Dormitory. The cost for the project is $100,000 US and we are at the beginning stages of raising the funds. I am attaching some rough sketches (we will have the color high-res images soon); which I think you should post to your website also.

He also sent a ton of pictures/sketches of the project itself.

Bump....$10 gets you entered into a ridiculous raffle. I know we've raised over $500 here in the past for troops and no prizes were involved! Everyone has $10 to spare ;)

Heck, if it ain't gonna get no more action than this, then I'll go chip in a second time. Every penny goes to build a chow hall for tots, guys. Can't go wrong with that.

Well, hey -- Two grand daughters are in from Utah today to visit their Nana and stay the night with us. First thing we think about is taking them out to eat. One grand daughter calls her friend on the phone and ropes him in for the feast. Nana ran to the grocery soon as she heard they were coming to make sure she has everything to cook their favorite breakfast, whatever they ask for. Trays of fruit and desserts. Feeding children. Tell me it's not true. Feeding children. It's the best fun in the world is feeding children. That simple.

what sucks is that i donated yesterday.......darn those guys.
  • I've been a longtime lurker here, and I'm ecstatic to see the support of so many of you in this. I just want to thank everyone for their support - it is greatly appreciated.

We continue to add prizes to the prize pool which already includes Prize Packs from Drew Estate, The Crowned Heads, House of Emilio, and more!

Also, we have two "side contests" set up to even further the prize "goodness".  Help us spread the word about this Raffle, and be entered to win a Cult Cigars Prize Pack.  The second is a special raffle for any donations that come in today and tomorrow that makes you eligible to win a box of Cuenca Cigars or an AJ Fernandez Prize Pack.  We're very close to our goal, and we thank you for your help in getting there.  Good luck to all that support this cause, and long ashes!
