Humidity is too low
Hey all,
First off if I use a term incorrectly please correct me, I am still new to this.
I have a relatively small humidor (holds about 30) that is nearly full. I have one of those sponges to hold liquid in the box and I've put my glycol-water mixture in it.
I noticed that my cigars were feeling kind of dry but the built in gauge was saying 70%ish. I also noticed that there's still fluid on top of the sponge and it's been nearly a month since I've put any in there. I bought a new hygrometer and put it in and it's reporting the humidity at 52%, while the ambient humidity is in 60-62%.
This seems odd so what could be going wrong? I know that the hygrometer isn't calibrated but I wanted to get a general feel for the humidity, but I'm shocked that it would be reporting so much lower than ambient while still having fluid pooled in the sponge.
Thanks for any help.

if you feel like throwing a bit of money at the issue (under $30) then upgrade to digital hygrometer. if you want to throw a bit more money at it ($20ish) then upgrade your humidification device to a two way system like silica beads.
search the forum using hte search function in the upper right to to learn how to calibrate a hygrometer and season a humidor. there are a ton of threads around here for that.
however, we are good for way more than that. stick around and learn a bit. contribute also. we all learn from each other.
It is a digital hygrometer, don't those still need to be calibrated?
edit: Since the solution isn't really working for me, what's a good alternative? These pouches:

or these tubes:

or go straight for beads?
