Why does smoke volume output vary?

Why do some sticks produce soooo much more smoke than others? Is it the oils present? That would be my first guess. And I assume different vitolas have an effect but I have noticed differences in some sticks of the same size.

along with the stuff in the thread you bumped up (CLICK) there are other factors.

how the leaf is grown, cured, and fermented will impact this.
how the cigars are blended and bunched will impact this.
and some companies will add more tobacco oils in the fermentation process along with waters steeped in tobacco to aid in combustion and flavor.

Just wanted to add the environment you smoke in should affect this too. How humid is it, temperature, wind, even just the light will at least affect how much smoke you see and how it flows.
