I used a similar case when we went to Reno recently. I tossed in a couple boveda and it held RH perfectly. I didn't cut out the foam though, I just pulled a layer or two out.

I cut channels for 6 on each side of that foam.

Got a bunch of furniture and got it moved in the nursery today. Thank God for a neighbor with a flatbed tow truck and muscles. we have the cat test everything...for safety.
