Talk to me about kitty litter

I've been around the forum long enough to see post about using cat litter. Being new, I never would've imagined using something a cat uses as toilet fodder to store my cigars. It seems to me that it would be best for absorbing excess humidity (not what we need in Wisconsin atm). Do you use in addition to a humidifier? How does it work?

It works just like Heartfelt beads. It's made from the same material. It needs to be the right type of kitty litter. 100% unscented silica kitty litter. You will have to train it to keep the desired relative humidity but it's usually just a matter of spritzing distilled water onto the KL in gradual increments until you get the desired results. It really works great for me in my coolers. There, it's virtually maintenance free. I hardly ever need to spritz the KL in my coolers.
