The earliest published reference to “duck soup,” meaning something that’s a cinch, dates from 1902. The American cartoonist T.A. Dorgan, known as TAD, used the term for the caption of a drawing showing a man juggling a bottle, a pitcher, a plate, and a salt shaker, according to The Random House Historical Dictionary of American Slang.

As to where Dorgan got the expression and exactly what he meant by it, we may never know. Was he inspired by the term “sitting duck”? Did a duck floating in a pond remind him of a crouton in a bowl of soup? Questions, questions!

In the immortal words of Chico Marx, “Why a duck?” In fact, Groucho was asked to explain the title of the 1933 Marx Brothers film “Duck Soup,” according to the Internet Movie Database. I’ll leave the last word to him:

“Take two turkeys, one goose, four cabbages, but no duck, and mix them together. After one taste, you’ll duck soup the rest of your life.”

I browned some onions and cooked some smoked sausage and added the sweet potato rice with some mixed veg last night for a quick dinner since Kim came home on the late side. She's gearing up for the school holiday break, lots of grading and other things to take care of.

Duck noodle soup. What are you supposed to call it when you make broth out of the carcass? Duck carcass soup?

Depends on how its done I guess. Wife takes the bones and simmers them in a slow cooker for who knows how long. Makes a bone broth then soup. not bad. she then makes soups, or when cooking rice, or other things. Kids called it anything but good since when they were sick she would heat it up for them because of the callogen (sp) and good things in it.

It's the skeleton broth way. Cut off all the good meat once you roast the duck, eat that, save the skeleton and then simmer it with carrots, onions, and spices for a few hours to make a broth. Then strain that to get all the bones and mushy carrots out, and make a soup with it. I guess I can call it bone broth soup?

Some people think it's vastly overrated. Just not sure what the disagree's/WTFs are for on my post, only thing I could think of.

I'm hoping someone just hit the wrong button and didn't realise it. Otherwise, WTF?
