Bat houses

Had a friend come over and we built some bat houses for next summer. The large one is an Oregon Wedge style that is 27inches high and 16 inches across. The other is a standard house that is a box with dividers inside that will hold more bats than the wedge. Fun to build and i hope will increase our bat population. image

very nice rodger. love the batman logo on them too. very fitting.
i see a few bats buzzing around our yard in the summer months, think it would be fun to put up a house (or 2) for them but don't have any great spots for it. from what i've read it says the boxes need to get full sunlight all day, too many trees around the spots i'd want to put them

Yeh, bats like high temps thats why they should be black and mounted facing east/south. The houses need to be mounted at least 3 meters (15 ft) high also. Some folks take a piece of black roofing paper and tack it around a tree on the top edge. the bats crawl up the tree under the untacked bottom. Good for one season.

We used to have 2 bat houses in one of our old maple trees.
We probably had 15 bats between the 2 boxes.
You would be surprised at how many flying bugs those things can eat.
