Best cigar style for Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout Pairing

ZAPZAP Posts: 186 ✭✭
I plan on doing a blind taster with some bourbon barrel aged stouts tomorrow.   Afterwards I will enjoy the remains with a nice cigar.   Any suggestions for a pairing.

I've got:

H Upman Banker
A fresh rolled one from Cigar City Brewing in Tampa
CAO America
Tatuaje Havana VI
Drew Estate Undercrown
Decade
Man o War Immortal
Gurkha Centurian
Olivia Saison
Cohiba XV
Diesel

Asylum Dragon's Milk would be perfect, but from your list I would say Tat or the undercrown.

For me, yes. If you usually smoke MOW or Cohiba XV, maybe not. What is the beer you are drinking. Interested to hear about that. If its bourbon barrel aged, I wouldn't want to smoke something which would kill my taste.

I'm doing a blind taster with:

    -Surly Darkness 2014
    -Indeed Rum King 2014
-Goose Island Bourbon Barrel Stout 2014
-Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Stout 2014

8 ounce samples...blind tasting....wife pours...etc, etc....once done...Then I will have some remains to finish up and that is where I thought a quality cigar would come in..

After 8 ounce pours of those and then some remains, it won't matter what cigar you smoke, lol. However, I would go with the Tat if you still wanted a cigar.

I agree with the Tat and Undercrown suggestions. My favorite pairing with Bourbon Barrel Stouts is a Liga 9

I really like Aging Room F55's for scotch, but under crowns are a solid smoke as well.

I've had Slayer in my head ever since this guy started posting. I'm not sure whether to thank him or....did he sign up for the newsletter yet?

I did the fresh rolled from Cigar City as I was wary of that one sitting in my humidor too long.

I paired with the Rum King remains and it was really fantastic....Nice easy draw on the Cigar City (tampa) cigar with a medium flavor and body.

Rum King finished 4th in my tasting (GI, Darkness, CW top three in that order) but to be fair it is a different beast with the Rum barrel aging and wow did it pair nicely with this cigar....

    Almost time for bed :)

i would aim for a stronger cigar.
of course, when i pair cigars with adult beverages i always smoke a stronger cigar. smoke is very easily covered by a liquid, especially an alcoholic liquid.
