Had To Retire The Humidor Today

So had to retire the first humidor I had, my wife bought it for me in October of 2011 right when I first joined Ccom, before that I had been using Pops' humidor and had just been given a 150 ct from my Grandfather. But the day has come that I was forced to retire the 300 count cabinet. Cael had destroyed it and mucked it up so much it just wasn't holding humidity anymore, was having mold issues and just falling apart. He had put his hands through the top plexiglass in two different places, ripped out the hygrometer built in and generally just brutalized it. Sad day but I am going to hang onto it to maybe remake or at least use as parts when I turn the grandmother clock into a humidor later on. Here are a few pics, but sad sad day. Had to stuff the cigars into all of the other humidors and coolidor to get everything in.

All I got from this is that you want a new coolidor and some more cigars? Just kidding. I understand your plight, Finnegan likes to press the buttons and touch the glass door on the wineador!

Lol yeah no no no no no don't even start that crap, no replacement needed or wanted of any sort under any circumstance. But I do hear Ya on the kiddos, I am always shooing Cael away from the wineador from touching the buttons or picking at the decals etc. But retiring the humidor was actually the kick in the pants I needed and wanted to start my next project. I'm turning the Grandmother Clock I have into a humidor and I have been itching to start a new project and have something to craft and work on in a bigger scale and this is perfect. Here's some pics of the clock I'm going to use and how it will start, going to refinish it while I am at it too!

I remember you talking about turning that clock into a humidor during a vherf. Might just be crazy enough to work.

That's a great name for it too, leave it to Brett and son to invent the clockidor. Cool idea too, you come up with this stuff when you're drinking Brett? And just because something is retired, it still has a use, lol.

Dang Brett, sorry to hear about your humi. Definitely hang onto it sounds like a nice sentimental gift from the wife. It'd be beyond my capabilities but I bet with a little TLC and the right parts you could get it back & running like new. (Maybe even one of the BOTLs here could help you out with that down the road if you go that route). If not I've seen your creativity with those clocks, purses, etc. and I have no doubt you'll find some cool way to repurpose it.

And agree with the fellas above ^^^^ --- on the bright side you're gonna pioneer the development of the first ever clockidor. TIIIGGHHHTTTT!!!!

She served her purpose well. Let her rest and admire her from time to time. Sooner or later we all will "retire!"

Sorry to hear about the retirement Brett! I still remember that humi in many pics we shared...still a great piece to hang onto for sentimental value.

Sooo, did you say you needed a new one?

Thanks everyone I'm really excited to start this project, I'm hoping to get it moved over to Ma and Pops' place tomorrow since the tools and space I need are there and then I can start working on it. Going to refinish and tear it apart and seal it first and source the kiln dried Spanish cedar that I need next. Then comes the actual crafting stage, putting in the ligjts and locating a humidity device. I know I want fans in it that I can control and I would LOVE to do an electronic humidifier unit in the base but I just don't think I can afford one right now. Will keep yall posted as progress goes. Will start a new thread in Cigar 101 when I start tearing into it.

Great to "see" you Eric and Tom, miss you guys!

I think that's exactly what he said.

But either way it looks like there will be plenty of room in that Clockidor.
