Need some prayers guys

HaysHays Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭
Something that most people (even those that know me in person) don´t know about me - I´m pretty deaf.

Prior to two weeks ago, my hearing was already very poor (deaf in my left ear, 70% hearing in my right), but I´ve managed just fine in my day-to-day for years. Unfortunately, I slipped with a Q-tip recently, and apparently traumatized my right ear... the specialist says my hearing is down to around 30% at best (it fluctuates to less than that), and we´re hoping that it comes back with some anti-inflammatory treatment that I´m on now. Kinda terrified, honestly - I went through 14 major operations as a child/teenager to fix my ears and related complications, and had hearing aids from age 2 to age 17. I´ve been holding onto what hearing I have left so precariously, and I´m having almost daily anxiety attacks that I´m just going to be completely deaf. Coupled with the fact that I´m pretty freaking blind (around 20/500 vision in both eyes, but I wear contacts), I´m feeling pretty vulnerable in life right now, and that´s not something that I´m dealing very well with. Just asking for some prayers and good vibes gents, I could really use the support.

Prayers to help heal. I was around some explosions when I was a young man. Still have difficulty hearing. I cannot imagine what you are going through. Stay strong.

Prayers, hope it gets better for you.  I never realized how much I relied on lip reading until we had to start covering our mouths with surgical masks at work.

Hi Hays. Prayers being sent your way. When you get back to the states you will need to find another fixer up sail boat to take your mind off the obvious and ease your anxiety. Take Care and Good Luck.

Well, we´re on like day three of the drugs, and I woke up this morning feeling like my hearing is coming back a little. Hard to say, as it´s not like I have any concrete way to measure it, but it certainly feels like a (small) improvement. Thanks for all the support guys, I really appreciate it.

Hope the improvement continues, A funny thing about that  comment on lip reading.  My hearing seems much better when I am looking at someone.  If they speak from behind me, or in a crowded space it seems muffled

Well gents, it looks like it was a false start the other day - my hearing went south, and things were looking pretty bleak (started planning a desperate trip to California to see my original surgeon). It's been a pretty sh!tty few days, and I know my wife's been stressed out for me too (I haven't been the best company)...

but ANYWAY, I woke up this morning and things seem to be back to normal! I don't mean 100% (cuz I didn't have that anyway), but my hearing seems to be totally back to what I had before I injured myself. I'm still completing the medicine the doctor put me on, and I have a follow-up appointment in a couple weeks, but so far I've gone all day today with normal hearing. Stoked to be back to normal, and to celebrate we're headed out the door to see Jurassic World right now
