Trump Sues Univision

Donald Trump, a Republican presidential candidate, is suing Univision. The Spanish-language TV network dropped its coverage of Miss USA and Miss Universe — two beauty pageants that Trump co-owns — because of Trump's remarks about Mexican immigrants during his presidential campaign announcement on June 16. NBCUniversal also dropped the pageant programming.
NPR's Andrew Limbong reports that Trump is seeking $500 million, and that in the suit, Trump claims Univision is attempting to suppress his freedom of speech.
Here's an excerpt from The Trump Organization's statement:
"Under the contract, Univision is required to broadcast the pageant live on television in Spanish. While Univision claims its decision came solely in response to comments by Mr. Trump during a June 16 campaign speech announcing his candidacy for President of the United States, the decision was, in reality, a politically motivated attempt to suppress Mr. Trump's freedom of speech under the First Amendment as he begins to campaign for the nation's presidency."
In an email to Politico, Univision spokesperson Monica Talan called the complaint "both factually false and legally ridiculous." She adds:
"We will not only vigorously defend the case, but will continue to fight against Mr. Trump's ongoing efforts to run away from the derogatory comments he made on June 16th about Mexican immigrants. Our decision to end our business relationship with Mr. Trump was influenced solely by our responsibility to speak up for the community we serve."
NPR's Greg Allen reported on Trump's comments last week:
" 'When do we beat Mexico at the border?' Trump said during his lengthy presidential announcement speech at Trump Tower in New York. 'They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.' "
Trump continues to defend what he said. Tuesday's statement quotes him in part saying, "There is a high level of crime occurring in this country due to unchecked illegal immigration. This is a major security issue for the United States."

This might explain the huge number of candidates - a goodly number of whom probably know from the get-go that they stand absolutely no chance of being elected but they'll keep the funds anyway and somehow divert them to private use.
Anybody have any solid, factual info on this? Evidently the media doesn't want to touch the question. I don't recall ever seeing or hearing anything on the topic.

Yes. Parts of the media pointed out the stupidity of al notsosharp and a stripper running for POTUS just to keep the funds. But the rest of the media ignored it.
Theoretically, any money not used by the candidate is either supposed to remain in their campaign fund (if they're planning on running for the same or different office at a future time) or returned to the party or PAC and use of that money for personal purposes is illegal. But I would imagine pols find all ways to get around this--i.e., that "fundraising trip" to donors in the U.S. Virgin Islands. And I suspect that, given how corrupt the whole process is, there isn't a hell of a lot of IRS or FEC scrutiny of these accounts.
Obviously, "self-funded" candidates like Trump aren't subject to these restrictions if they don't set up separate campaign funds or receive donations.
If Goldie Hawn was running against anyone named clinton I would vote for Goldie.
I don't see not voting for a woman as sexist, just as not voting for Obama wasn't racist.
Voting on a president should be based on their values, ideals and principles.
The greater good is something most folks fail to remember nor understand, even our politicians fail to remember that.
Who you vote for shouldn't be criticized by anyone, as it is a personal choice.
But remember that the candidate is open for criticism, as not everyone has the same values and may see things from a different light as you.
We've become a weak nation concerned more about not offending anyone, than we are making sure things are right.
While I don't care for Trump or his ideals, he is being chastised because he chose to take a stand and face criticism for his beliefs. I have to respect that, whether or not I agree with him.
Just my opinion.
Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy cigars and that's close enough.
I'd say the campaign is going swimmingly.
or
