Just another day for the most part. I'll try to smoke a "special occasion" cigar or two. Have a good meal too. That's about it.

I believe it all depends on you. I stopped celebrating my birthday  when I was 12 as it was no longer fun and I don't miss it. There are only two people in the world now that get to celebrate my birthday and they are my daughters.

As far as their birthdays go, I celebrate the hell out if them as that is what they enjoy.

If it ain't fun and you're not "required" to do it, then why do it?

Happy Birthday Big"nBall"n. Hope you find some time to light up a couple stix and sip something tasty.

I hear you. Birthdays as an adult are odd.

I do however try to call my mom on that day. Tell her thank you for bringing me into this world, and express gratitude for the pains and sacrifice and gray hairs that day cost her.

When we were young, the world was so new and strange, and filled with wonders. Gifts were magical, the happy birthday song generated excitement, and the objective was doing as many exciting and amazing things as possible in that unfettered existence.

As an adult, we are galvanized into being a responsible upstanding human. We work, we put food on the table, we bust arse trying to make a good life for our spouse, and our kids. It may be a bit existential of me, but I think we need to slow down and try to reflect on our own personal meaning -- wherever we find it -- religion, philosophy, science, or even cigars. It is up to us to somehow harness the whisper of what that magic was to us as children. It is dadgum hard to do.

So, my soapbox rant is a bit more than I was expecting to share here tonight. And for that, I apologize. I feel the years slipping by, and have been putting in long hours at work (lol). I do hope you have a happy b-day, broseph. I do hope you can find the peace or magic or calm you are seeking.

I too am looking for that same same peace, magic and calm.

    Respectfully,
    Jay

I quit getting excited after 21. At that point drinking became way less fun and I could buy handguns so not much more to look forward to other then a senior discount.

For me it's just another day. However for family and friends I try to do something special.

Happy birthday (whats left of it). Hope you had a great day and spoiled yourself a bit.

    Nice post @jarubla!

Sooner or later, they start getting fun again.  Or at least you get to the point of being grateful that the Lord gave another day 365 times in a row and you get to celebrate another trip around the sun.

Maybe you just need a red Corvette.  :-)

@peter4jc you should post a pic of your 'vette. Maybe we should set up a rides thread...

Happy Birthday. The answer is 42 and I hope that helps.

Yes, they become fun but the day itself is usually spent working. Give me a good cigar, good libations, and good company and I'm happy. For those times when that's not enough, plan a trip and do the same thing.

My birthdays are a blast. You must just be a depressing person.  >:)

Seriously though, I don't celebrate my birthday, but my wife does. And vice versa.

After you turn fifty you actually start counting backwards. Or so I've been told by old buzzards.

    Oh wait I'm there now......

Try to have a happy birthday in any event....You've lived yet another year.

    Congrats!!!!!
