Ok, this first one I have to explain, and I know if you have to explain something you probably shouldn't bother, but I found this same XKCD strip earlier in the week when I was looking up TAR memes. TAR is an old standard for Tape Archives and being an old standard has a lot of cryptic flags and command modifiers that you should remember. We're still collecting TAR archives today so I got a kick out of it.
