Actually your lovely liberal state of California is the only 3 strike state i know of. Not saying they are it but thats all i know. If you have millions in prison in Cali its because of your liberal policies helping out the minority communties so well

    Agreed @CharlieHeis and @Amos_Umwhat.

My argument is that maybe rather than criticizing his actions we would be better served examining what he is protesting against and what possible solutions there may be.

@Usaf06 I have participated plenty around here and for over 3 years longer than you so I would reserve judgment if I were you. It's funny how quickly folks get defensive and start the name calling when someone doesn't fall in line and agree with them. Sorry to interrupt the usual self-flagellation that is a political thread around here. Most of the guys that would argue along side me have grown tired of the hyper-aggressive my way or the highway arguments that quickly devolve into shouting matches from guys like you. I for one am not intimidated. You'll notice I never start a political thread.

"Twenty-four states have some form of "three-strikes" law. A person accused under such laws is referred to in a few states (notably Connecticut and Kansas) as a "persistent offender", while Missouri uses the unique term "prior and persistent offender". In most jurisdictions, only crimes at the felony level qualify as serious offenses; however, misdemeanor offenses can qualify for application of the three-strikes law in California, whose application has been the subject of controversy."

    Twenty-four states. Fascinating.

Wish it was all 50 states. Im havent started yelling or name calling. Just pointing out that you only post when its political. This is a cigar forum so maybe asking you if you post about cigars was too much.

If you don't already know, then you're just offended for no good reason. If you don't think what he is protesting is a serious issue facing our country then there is no reason for me to argue with you as you have no intention of considering opinions different than your own.

I'll post when and where I feel like it. That's sort of the nature of an online forum. I suggest you not worry about it. Sometimes it takes thick skin.

Have a good evening. I have to get ready for the draft for the cigar.com fantasy football league.

I doubt anyone here would say the issue isn't worth protesting, or needs attention... just that Kaepernick chose the wrong venue to bring attention to it.

"While I'm sure you're well versed in our Federal Constitutional Rights as citizens and are aware that his actions are protected under the First Amendment(yes I know you don't have to like it), often a citizen is offered further protection under their respective State Constitution."..... says the lib voting for Hillary who ironically is anti 2nd ammendment. Intersting. So we can protect freedom of speech but damn to hell the right to bear arms. Ironic post is ironic

I challenge you to find anywhere that I've said I am anti-2nd amendment.

Yes.  Wrong time, wrong venue for protest.  He can surely make a much clearer statement, verbally, and intelligently.  If not, then perhaps he's got nothing of value to add.

Transcript of a recent interview with the "idiot" if you're actually interested in what he has to say. http://www.espn.com/blog/san-francisco-49ers/post/_/id/18957/transcript-of-colin-kaepernicks-comments-about-sitting-during-national-anthem

I for one think that he has had some success thus far as he has started discussions that may not have taken place otherwise. Again I'll argue many of these discussions are misguided and don't actually address anything of substance, but rather how he disrespected a flag and a song. I'm sorry that you're offended. Harden up. No one will care about this in a month when the next manufactured outrage presents itself.

It is interesting to me what is considered "patriotic" these days and how quickly people voice their disdain for actions that don't fit their narrative of patriotism. You won't find me out in the street waving an American flag, but it doesn't mean I love my country any less than my neighbor. I would argue that bringing national attention by using whatever platform necessary to a very real societal dysfunction is quite patriotic.

@Bob_Luken Thanks for the meaningful contribution to the discussion. My contribution to the forum was questioned and I responded in kind. I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter if you're interested in sharing, otherwise, why jump on the dogpile and continue to alienate people that don't agree with the group?

This whole thing started with me sharing a picture or "meme" that I found funny and appropriate to the original topic. There were 5 previous pictures/cartoons/memes posted before mine yet I am met with disdain.

"Not surprising you would find a stupid meme to contadict opinion."

It is, in fact, possible to discuss matters such as these without being a d!ck.

Wouldn't a press conference by Kaepernick, where he could elucidate his ideas on injustice gotten attention just as well?  Now, whether you agree or not with those who think he's dog dirt for disrespecting the flag, he's viewed by many as a nutcase and his opinions on social injustice will be discounted.  It was the wrong platform.

As to your statement above, that's crazy talk too.  When I was 16 some loonies bombed the UW Madison Math Building 75 miles from my home because they thought UW was doing research for the army and it was being used in Viet Nam.  There have been numerous protests, some violent, to bring attention to some issue or plight.  That's "quite patriotic"?

As a UW-Madison alum, I will categorically deny that the bombing of the math building was anything other than an act of terrorism.

However, one might argue that the UW Pail and Shovel Party's brilliant transfer of the Statue of Liberty to Lake Mendota was rather awe-inspiring...

There is never a good reason to get personal in one of these threads.

I rarely have time for a cigar these days as most of my time and money is being spent raising a small child. I still look at the forum and enjoy the hobby vicariously though the posts here while the cigars in my humidor "age". I believe I'll have a cigar this Saturday. I might even post about it. Perhaps that would make my opinions more valid in these political threads on a cigar forum...

When my opinions are called bullshit and my credentials/contributions are questioned you can be damn sure I'm going to defend myself. The only projection of beliefs I see taking place in this thread is aimed at me. If you read the thread carefully, I think you'll see the same. Somehow we went from me supporting CK's protest to me being anti-cop, pro-Hillary, and anti 2nd-amendment without me mentioning any of the later issues.

If you find my posts condescending or arrogant, that's your problem, not mine. I will admit there is a great deal of sarcasm in my posts. Perception does not always equal reality. When the points I make are met with finger pointing and pigeon holing, and are called stupid and bullshit, you can understand that I wouldn't be very pleased. That displeasure likely shows in my responses.

If you want to know what I think, read my posts again.

And, I hope you get the chance to enjoy a great cigar this weekend. <--- No sarcasm intended.
