Black Thursday Rant

Bob_LukenBob_Luken Posts: 10,004 ✭✭✭✭✭
Just saw a walmart ad that made me hate retailers more. The scene is at home thanksgiving day. Everyone is relaxing after the big feast. (Cue the music) It's James Brown - Get up off-a that thing! In other words "get up off-a that azz and get down to wally-world on Thanksgiving Day". They even interrupt grandpa from his chill time on the front porch. (Grandpa's a dummy for going along with the charade.) I feel sorry for the retail workers. I feel sorry for anyone who has grown up in the era of Black Friday Blowout sales with brawls and humans trampled. :(

Thank you.  I was thinking of adding "Black Friday" to the Things I Hate thread, but this will do nicely.

I agree.  I think it's ridiculous when families (including ours, unfortunately) have to plan dinner around members having to leave to go to retail jobs on a holiday.  Won't those sales be there the next three weeks?

We just skip the whole shopping thing and put up the decorations on Friday.  Even trying to run a short errand that whole weekend is miserable due to traffic.  In the end it just pushes more sales online for people who don't want to put up with the aggravation.

A couple of the local grocery stores put it to a vote with their workers and the opted to be open until noon on thanksgiving.

I don't think anything should be open on holidays. The way it used to be.

Agree with this rant, Thursday shouldn't be focused on Shopping, and neither should Friday.  I'll be celebrating Green Friday at a California State Park, 13,000 free day pass tickets were given away and I'll be taking the family to Sunset Beach near Watsonville this Friday.  Some of my girls may be working, though.   :/

Not retail, but I worked at a movie theater for years.  I left in part because if I heard one more person say "it must stink that you have to work on a holiday" I might have done something that disqualified me from being a minister.

All the hype for what? How many people just buying for themselves. I used to work retail but in those days we closed on the holidays. I never shop at Walmart and I feel sorry for all the employees that have to work.

I start my Christmas shopping in September. I am finished by the ist week in November and most of it is done online. I do not go near a B&M store of any kind until January, unless its for food. Black Friday sales should end, it brings out the worst in too many people. And I don't feel the least bit guilty looking at vids of the doors opening at all the stores that have a Black Friday sale.
