Well, heading in on Thursday to add to my titanium collection - thumbs screwed up. Starting with the left thumb. Fusion of first metacarpal phalangeal joint and fusion of carpometacarpal joint. In other words, fuse the first two bones in the thumb then wire that to the bone in the wrist. In a cast until there’s indication the bones fusing about four to six weeks. Probably less. Thumb won’t bend anymore but can move it as a unit. Also won’t hurt or swell up anymore. Orthopedist says it’s probably genetics. He said the joints were in the worst condition he’s seen. Too much wear and tear I reckon.
