Dawn, found this and sent it to me. It's just too cool not to share.

Car owned by a gentle old man who just drove it so carefully. ...

This person had a great start in life.

Mr Allen Swift:  Born 1908 - Died  2010
This man owned and drove the same car for 82 years.

Can you imagine even having the same car for 82 years?

Mr Allen Swift ( Springfield, Massachusetts) received this

    1928 Rolls-Royce Piccadilly-P1 Roadster from his father,

brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928.

He drove it up until his death... at the age of 102.

He was the oldest living owner of a car that was purchased new.

Thought you'd like to see it.

                           Rolls Royce Phantom I   1928

It was donated to a Springfield museum after his death.

It has 1,070,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any

speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition.

     82 years - That's approximately 13,048 miles per year (1087 per month).

    1,070,000 that's miles not kilometres.
That's British engineering of a bygone era.

They don’t make them like this anymore.

Not trying to downplay this feat, but if you are born into a family of privileged, than this feat isn't really that remarkable. Had he been given a 1928 Ford and still drove it 80 years later, THAT would be something.

The Piccadilly was one of the most expensive of the Rolls line in 1928 and cost a whopping $18,000 in that day. That is the equivalent of $250k today.
If you had the kind of money to purchase that vehicle, you also had the money to do the upkeep.

Not to mention the prestige of owning that vehicle.
It would be kind of like being given a Bentley today.

Man, either that car is huge or the guy’s a dwarf.....  :p

It was a sizable car, no question about it.
The tires were about 33" tall, so that can give you an idea of the sizes.
But I'm betting he isn't taller than 5' 6" tall.
