Beard Care

Since we were having this conversation in a fast moving thread about cigars.

I use a couple different things in my beard. I use a beard oil daily to keep the skin healthy. I use a beard balm if I sleep on it wrong and can't get it to point correctly. I use a beard butter almost daily. It's good for keeping it soft and cuddly (for the wife), and i use a mustache wax to keep that out of my teeth.

Beautiful Bearded Man is a company local to Reno. After trying multiple butters, Grave Before Shave has been the best daily use so far. And as for the scent, it smells like a cigar with rum. Not tobacco, but pretty reminiscent of the sweet smoke that comes off a Padron, and the smell lasts all day. Everyone around me compliments it regularly.

Older and more belligerent every day. The wife hit 30, so I told her that it’s her fault we are old now. It’s been awhile Mike. How have you and Donna been?

Don’t even talk about old, I’ll be 60 in May.
We are doing very well. Thankful we are healthy for our age.
I am still dealing in the casino and Donna is climbing UNM administration ladder. She is chair of the fine arts department and if she makes it to Dean I am going to part time!
Hope to see you on the vherf soon.

I don’t make it on often with my current schedule. Hopefully soon though. Miss you both. I still wear that beanie at least once a week.

I like the Grave Before Shave Viking Blend oil.  Good, mild smell.  Don't like their bay rum-way too strong.

There's some butter I just threw out after a couple years.  I found it gritty and odd smelling.  Finally figured out it reminded me of urinal pucks.  I'll see if I can figure out what it was and thus prevent any other victims.

    Trying some new product, now.

I like Oliva and Quesada (including Regius) a lot.  I will smoke anything, though.

I use an oil from BeardSconsin.com. I like it. A couple different smells and unscented.

Thanks for all the posts/reviews of beard care products, it's been very helpful. So far I am really liking the Honest Amish Beard Balm, no perfume but lightly scented with anise, cedar, clove, and a few other botanicals. Cured beard itch, thankfully; I guess that if from the anti-bacterial effect of the clove. Will give the grave before shave stuff a try when I reorder though I'm not sure I want the scent to last all day.

I don't use anything on my  beard, or mustache  except for shampoo when I get my shower and Dawn  tells me that my beard is soft and tickles her.

Beard oil - Jojoba oil, hemp seed oil, and a few drops of pine essential oil. I buy all my essential oils through Ananda Apothecary online. I like the woodsy, outdoors scent to remind me of the forest where I grew up. I usually just buy the oils in bulk and make my own beard and skin oil blends and also buy bulk quantities of sodium bicarbonate and coconut oil to make deodorant and toothpaste/tooth powder. Bags of dried mint leaves or peppermint can also go a long way. Skin moisturizer -cacao butter and shea butter mixed with coconut oil. The store bought products are trash. I used to make my own lye soap and laundry detergent, too. (I kind of got lazy there lately)

I oil my beard with sausage.

I used to make my own pre-shave oil. Quit shaving, though.

I haven't shaved in over 48 hours and I'm about to drag that dollar store razor down my cheeks. I'm just crackin jokes. I love y'alls beards, but seriously hate mine. Never grew one that didn't look ugly, or kill me with itch. What month is it,....? November? No shave November? I tried that once,..... five days.

And after a few weeks it starts to get better. Before long, no issues at all with growing a beard unless you've got strange skin. I'd estimate maybe a few months total letting it grow wild, but it varies person to person. Some dudes with thick hair can get a great beard, others with baby fine hair like me takes a bit longer. Mineral oil helps a bit if you're not into buying beard oil; I can't blame a person for not wanting to spend the money if they aren't sure about growing one. And then making your own beard oil is even better. Most of the time I will just use some high quality coconut oil and that's it.

It was October '82... the music director/pastor at church wanted all the choir members to grow a beard for the Victorian Christmas musical.  Between that, and deer hunting, I figured I could be scruffy and blend in for the two months it would take for any potential beard to come in (I never tried and didn't expect much).  So that was the last time I didn't have a beard.  But I don't like how it looks after a couple months of growth, so I keep it trimmed up... I don't perceive the need for beard oil, but maybe I'm wrong.  ?

I'm experiencing deja vu. I think we've had this conversation before. You have a fabulous beard. (We need more close-up pics from the other fabulously bearded ones here on the forum.) Thanks for the tip, next time I get the notion to try a beard again, I'll be sure and use some nice smelling beard oil. LOL Might make it bearable for my next attempt.

I use a wood comb, wet brush, and occasionally a badger bristle brush. I use biosilk mostly for my oil. With maybe a few drops of the scented stuff mixed in. I avoid using exclusively scented stuff because it just gets to be too much sometimes and it gets pricey if you use it according to the directions for a mane like mine. I have some balms but no butters and the balms are just too heavy for me so I use them sparingly. I clean with womens damage control shampoo and conditioner. A quarterly trim to take the split ends and control general shape is about all the more I do to it.

Its extra frizzy today because I didn't brush this morning and we've got 40 to 50 mph winds.

So, how long did it take before you veteran beard growers stopped singeing your beards with the torch lighter?  :)

I just hold the cigar away from my face for relights.

I tilt my head to the side when I use a torch.

I char with a torch away from my face. Then final light and all relights are soft flame
