@Bob_Luken @peter4jc if you click the little gear icon next to the title of the thread, and then click dismiss, the thread will no longer pin at the top. It will still say announcement with the blue box, but all the announcements won't be **** shoved at the top of the **** listing. You can do this per thread , I haven't found a sitewide setting to disable all pins.
See this screenshot as an example of what mine looks like. I keep the vherf thread pinned but none of the other ones.
