Hello.. new to the forum with my first question!
How and how long would be recommended to store freshly rolled cigars? I’ve been frequenting some Dominican hand rolled shops in my area and am thinking about a larger order. Question is about ‘sick period’ What would be the best way to store let’s say a box worth and how long should I wait to light up?
Thanks for the help!

Don't they speak English at those shops?
About as well as I speak Spanish, unfortunately.. sometimes there’s a kid there who translates.. I was going to ask them but wanted to hear some thoughts as well.
That's what I figured. I'm sure some of our experts, whose ranks I am not part of, will be glad to chime in.

Gars smoke about 7/8 fine ROTT. Yep, you can light up w/ the wrapper still damp and have a good enough experience so's you can tell what the finished product is gonna be. You have maybe two days to figure out if this is a blend that you want to roll up a stash worth of. So if you go to a shop and the torcedor torques the stick right in front of you, wrap it in paper, put it in your pocket, pour some rum after dinner and sit down with it.
Somewhere's around the third day, things go south on you. Depending how damp your binder & all started out, it can get real rank. At this point, you best give it six weeks. At six weeks you prolly exceed 90% as good as it gets.
But the final percentiles come with patience. For max result, once you have rolled up a stash, you will want to give it six months for the leaves to learn how to play well together. This is when the blend mellows.
Right now I am sparking the Daily Habit sticks that I rolled two a day all last year. Top tray of the humidor is DH blend #34, which my spreadsheet tells me were rolled March 2019. Yesterday, tho, I lit a Nic Delicado which I rolled last December.
On the other hand, these days I am trying to come up with a new Dominican blend in fat robusto vitola. I rolled a test gar yesterday. I had better get on it today, or else the test will be futile, cause it won't taste good enough for me to make a fair judgement.
Answer: either ROTT, or else six weeks, or else six months.
ROTT will tell you if you want to buy a box
Six weeks means you can start enjoying that box
Six months is when you share with a friend, & say: "You're gonna love this".
The Uppowoc Golden Hair, a robusto, rolled in June.
many thanks. Just the advice I was looking for! And that robusto looks awesome!
Fascinating.

Dang Ricky, are you making up for lost time or something?
