Las Vegas and Humidor

Good day, guys

So, I might need some of your advice regarding the dry Las Vegas weather.

I do own a cooler humi fridge and since I moved to Las Vegas my humidor is playing ping pong temperature. Therefore, I finally ''stabilize'' at 72% and 66F but I am scared that it will change again. In addition, I put lots of beans (3 cup) and also do have 3 packs of 72% boveda.

Also, I do have around 100 cigars ++

Besides, my wood humi is at 70% and 74F so pretty hot. ![]

Therefore, anybody is living in the a dry location and got tricks for me.

Thanks

Dump the beads and toss the 72% Boveda packs. Get some 65% Boveda packs, toss them in there, and be stress free. For us hot weather folks, nothing is easier. You only need about half for plastic vs wood humidors, though a couple extra won't hurt. The humidity will rise and fall within 5% with 65% Boveda packs, should never go beyond 70%, even if the weather is hot. Mine usually run at 67% when weather is hot, up to 70% when the AC is cycling a lot, and rock steady 65% when weather is cool. You want to error on the side of caution when you live in a hot climate. 65% Boveda, all day, everyday.

As for your wood humidor, it's just going to be hotter unless you keep your AC at 68°. It doesn't matter And you won't grow bugs as long as you keep the humidity down in the 60s.

For the wooden humidor, I have one of those crappy plastic bead containers with the screen on top that you add distilled water to because the humidity leaks out of there so quickly. I have it magnetized underneath the lid. The trick to these things, since they pïss humidity, is to get one of those Spanish cedar sheets that you commonly find inside a box of cigars. Put that sheet on top of all of your cigars in the humidor. That way, when you refill the bead container and it starts pissing water everywhere, it will do so on top of that Spanish cedar sheet. Under the sheet, your cigars will be at about 65% humidity.

What part of Vegas do you live in? I'm in northtown.

Here's a picture of my desktop wooden box

For the big wooden tower, I use this moist-n-air unit at the bottom which is just a fan that blows on distilled water. I have it on a timer twice a day and that keeps the humidor stable enough

For the wineador, I have about 10 65% bovedas in each side. I've noticed that the humidity fluctuates, more humid in the back and less in the front. I think that's just a product of the thermoelectric cooling method.

Sweet. I used to live over there about 10 years ago. They open up any cigar lounges on that side of town?

i really want an old school cabinet like that but afraid of keeping the temp and rh right. They look so good and would look awesome in my office. Kinda scared to venture away from the solid and reliable tupperware.

Once I got it set up right, it's been pretty easy to maintain. Had to play with it a little here and there, no comments from the peanut gallery, but once I had it dialed in it's been clear sailing. I got this one for free from a person who was moving. Lucked into it, totally.

To bring your own cigars? That limits your choices brother. The only one that I know of that lets you bring your own stuff is the one where you pay a membership at. It's a pretty swanky joint. I recommend that if you want to go to a lounge and work, just buy a stick there. Most places have $4 house sticks that are at least smokable. When I go, I buy a stick that I really want to smoke. To hell with the price.

However, there are some cool places. The tobacco leaf on lake Mead and 95 is my regular joint. Not to say it's the best joint, but it's my regular. You can work there and grab a TAA stick. They are the only TAA dealer in town. I think they have four total locations. The other ones are in Tivoli village, Henderson, and rainbow and 215, although that one might be closed.

The cigar box on Dean Martin is my favorite place. They have a superb lounge and a whiskey bar that are both closed right now, but the humidor is really good too. Lot of sinistro stuff which I like. Good prices too.

Cigar warehouse on arville and Tropicana has the best prices in town. they also have a lounge but it's a little small and a little noisy, however I see a lot of guys working out of there.

En Fuego in Henderson has a bunch of black works stuff and a really cool lounge. Not sure if the lounge is open now or not.

Helios on rampart is a place where you can buy a locker and access to the VIP room. Bring all the crap you want from home. It's also pretty swanky, but I don't know how much the membership is because that's not my gig.

The Las vegas cigar outlet is on Sahara a couple of blocks east of the strip. That's a really cool joint with a really cool owner. A lot of high-end stuff there. Parking sucks during the day though And at night after the next door business closes there are a few more spaces.

Lovo cigar is in container park but I've never been there. Seems like it might be touristy. Speaking of tourists, there are a couple of davidoff places, casa fuente, and one or two casa montecristo's on and around the strip. Expensive!

There are four or five others that have closed right now.

There are five or six others that I've gone to that are not worth mentioning. There's a total s*** hole on Eastern and windmill that sucks big time. Stay away from it. There's the Las Vegas cigar company. They only sell the stuff they roll, which is good, but probably not the experience that the newbie is looking for. there are a couple of hookah lounges that allow cigar smoking. I'd rather smoke the hookah in the lounge, but not during covid 19 lol. There's also a swanky joint called La casa that is way overpriced and concentrates on being overly hoity toity. The guys there look down on you if you're not smoking a $25 Dominican cohiba. Idiots. There are also several more unaffiliated cigar shops in some of the other casinos like binions which aren't bad but are nothing to write home about. The wynn has an excellent smoking lounge that doesn't sell cigars but does sell pretty good whiskey but that is closed right now. Shall I go on?

I'd remove the 72% Boveda packs you have in there as well. Your cigars are all probably over humidified already and it will take a while to bring them down, especially if you store them, as many of us do, in their cellos wrappers. They'll be fine without any humidification for a good while. In fact, the 65% bovedas will be busy for probably a month just drawing down humidity. You need to mitigate the pain now. Like immediately go and remove it. The poor cigars are suffering. You should probably not smoke any from your humi for a good month IMO. Order some stuff to get you buy or buy some stuff locally. Wet cigars are terrible, add high heat on top of that and it just compounds the terrible. Acrid, smoldering, splitting, swollen and soggy isn't sexy...lol

I left some cigars out for a week up here in PA and since my house is like a humidor, I had no worries. Of course, the Winterfell curse will be upon me soon enough because winter is coming. We usually have 8 months of winter and 4 months of "non-winter", as I call it. I miss the west, though. I should get back out there one day soon, I hope.
@cigartats Good luck with your humidor arrangement; the 65% Boveda work great for me. You might have to change them out more frequently, though.

Bovedas are rechargable, FYI, so you can rotate your packs when necessary with fresh/recharged packs.

FYI you can buy a pectin glue to conceal the cracked wrapper if you want to try to smoke that... most guys just toss’em... but it’s a patch job that works some times
